Title: Assistant Controller

Job Summary

The Assistant Controller assists the Controller in directing the Bank’s accounting functions. The Assistant Controller manages the accounting operations of the Bank, to include being a key participant in the month end closing process, financial reporting processes, and is responsible for ensuring daily, monthly, and quarterly responsibilities are completed. The Assistant Controller will also develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Accounting staff and other departments. Assists the Controller and Chief Financial Officer in other projects as needed.

Essential Job Functions
  • Manages accounts payable, fixed assets and accrual processing
  • Ensures general ledger differences are resolved timely
  • Assists in the monthly close process, including monthly financial statement variance analysis, and consolidation of entities.
  • Reviews daily and monthly reconciliations prepared by the team including subsidiary ledgers
  • Trains and develops accounting staff
  • Prepares financial statements, disclosures, and performs financial analysis for SEC filings (i.e. 10Q, 10K, and insider reporting filings).
  • Review regulatory reports prepared by staff (i.e. Call Report, FR2900, QCR, SPDA)
  • Assists with technical support on disclosure issues to ensure the appropriate application of SEC, GAAP, and federal banking rules.
  • Completes disclosure checklists to ensure disclosure compliance.
  • Participates in the implementation of new systems
  • Proposes and implements process improvements related to internal and external reporting.
  • Reviews, updates, and monitors departmental internal controls and attestation compliance requirements.
  • Assists in external and internal audit data collection, documentation and reviews.
  • Assists in treasury management functions of the Bank.
  • Prepares ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university
  • Detail-oriented with ability to focus on tasks
  • Possess strong analytical skills
  • Must have five or more years of experience in banking related industry with at least two years of SEC financial reporting experience
Abilities Required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a logical, succinct format both verbally and in writing
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with intermediate/ advanced skill in Excel
  • Adaptability in banking-related software programs
Desired Skills
  • Working knowledge of FIS Horizon or similar banking related accounting software package; Workiva for SEC reporting
  • Strong working knowledge of internal control over financial reporting, to include either Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 or FDIC Act Part 363 (FDICIA).
  • Strong technical knowledge of banking regulations, laws, guidelines, GAAP and related procedures.
