Title: Assistant Director of Applied Science, Duke University Athletics

Position Overview:

The Assistant Director of Applied Science will play an essential role establishing a comprehensive, holistic, and strategic sports science system to support the optimization of student athlete health, wellness, performance, and development while contributing to an environment that heightens the student athlete experience. Through oversight and direct interaction this position will play a key role in data collection, analysis, and communication to coaches, support staff, and associated personnel.

Essential Functions:

Lead data collection, analysis, and communication of sports science data for assigned teams.

Technology utilized includes but not limited to Catapult, Force Decks, NordBord, Force Frame, Body Weights, Subjective Questionnaires.

Daily oversight and mentoring of our team of sports science interns within Olympic Sports.

Collaborate with athletic medicine, sport performance, nutrition, behavior health and coaching staff to optimize student-athlete health, wellness, performance, return to play, rehabilitation progression and minimize risk for injury.

Provide insight/feedback to customize data management software.

Assist in the vetting of new technologies and software.

Contribute to research initiatives including data collection, data security, analysis, and scholarly writing.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree or PhD in Sports Science, Exercise Science, Physiology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or related academic field.

At least one (1) year of experience working within a collegiate athletics or professional sports.

Experience working with athlete monitoring technologies (GPS, Force Plate, Wellness Questionnaires, Body Weights).

Data analysis and visualization skills (Power BI, Excel, R, Python, etc.).

Previous interdisciplinary work and communication within a comprehensive high-performance environment.

Experience in leadership/mentoring within an applied sports setting.

Minimum QualificationsEducation

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills

Ability to provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting standards and monitoring performance.

Skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems.

Skills evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming an action plan.

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $44,766.00 to USD $71,706.00.
