Job description

Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland's most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It's like a small city unto itself. The Role
Are you passionate about inspiring athletes to reach their highest potential in a fun, competitive, and supportive environment? We're looking for a part-time enthusiastic Artistic Swimming Assistant Coach to join our team and lead athletes to success both in and out of the pool. You'll play a key role in shaping the next generation of artistic swimmers. You'll lead practices, choreograph routines, and travel with athletes to competitions, fostering a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and personal growth. This position is ideal for a motivated, creative, and organized professional with a strong background in synchronized swimming and a commitment to athlete development.
This is a part-time position.
What You'll Do
  • Provide Leadership & Develop Athletes: Coach, inspire, and encourage swimmers toward competitive excellence. Lead and monitor in-water and land-based training sessions for assigned squads. Foster a positive, disciplined, and sportsmanlike environment for athletes. Maintain ongoing communication with swimmers, parents, and staff via email, phone, and meetings. Assist in tracking individual swimmer goals and monitoring progress.
  • Develop Choreography & Music Editing: Creatively choreograph routines as assigned by the Head Artistic Swimming Coach. Edit music tracks for routines and performances.
  • Competition Travel: Coordinate and accompany teams to competitions, managing logistics and athlete engagement.
  • Event Support: Lead and support artistic swimming classes, clinics, and camps. Organize meet entries, attendance, and results; coordinate MAC-hosted competitions.
  • System Management: Use ISS for coach cards and TeamSnap for scheduling and squad communication.
  • Engage with Members: Promote participation in aquatics department programs and events.
  • Emergency Response: Handle injuries, illnesses, and emergencies according to safety protocols.
  • Budget Compliance: Submit accurate expense reports and assist with equipment purchasing.
  • Team Collaboration: Attend staff meetings and assist in developing the annual competition schedule.

What You'll Bring
  • Certification Readiness: CPR and First Aid certifications, and CCP Level 1 or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Completion of concussion management training within 60 days.
  • USAAS Membership: Coaching member in good standing with USA Artistic Swimming.
  • Competitive Experience: Background in competitive artistic (synchronized) swimming.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with platforms like TeamSnap, ISS, and common office software.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written skills to build strong relationships with swimmers and families.
  • Motivational Drive: Proven ability to motivate and encourage athletes of varying skill levels.
  • Team-Oriented Mindset: Ability to collaborate effectively with coaching staff and club members.
  • Physical Capability: Able to meet the physical demands of coaching, including swimming, standing, and demonstrating techniques.
