Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. Our organization recently completed two major building projects and continues to grow in expanded services to serve the community.
Currently we seek an Assistant Development Director to provided leadership for the Marketing & Communications function and translates the fundraising, volunteer engagement, and organizational priorities established by the Director of Development into integrated marketing strategies and measurable campaigns.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Assistant Development Director is responsible for leading people, systems, and projects rather than serving as the primary content producer. The Assistant Director is accountable for marketing strategy, brand stewardship, departmental operations, project management, team leadership, and performance while empowering the Communications Specialist, Digital Marketing & Content Coordinator, and future staff to execute day-to-day marketing activities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Lead the organization's marketing and communications strategy to increase brand awareness, donor engagement, volunteer engagement, church partnerships, and community support.
  2. Serve as the primary marketing advisor to the Director of Development by translating fundraising priorities into integrated marketing and communications strategies.
  3. Provide strategic oversight of all marketing projects by managing workflows, editorial calendars, campaign schedules, priorities, and cross-functional coordination.
  4. Provide leadership, coaching, performance management, and professional development for the Marketing & Communications team.
  5. Direct creative strategy and approve major communications, ensuring consistency with organizational brand standards and messaging.
  6. Oversee marketing support for fundraising campaigns, donor engagement initiatives, volunteer recruitment, organizational events, and public awareness campaigns.
  7. Lead brand management, messaging frameworks, communications planning, crisis communications, and executive messaging.
  8. Lead marketing operations including technology, digital asset management, marketing systems, workflow processes, and continuous process improvement.
  9. Develop and manage the marketing budget; oversee agencies, photographers, videographers, designers, printers, and media partners.
  10. Establish marketing KPIs and dashboards; analyze campaign performance and recommend strategic improvements.
  11. Partner with leaders across Development, Programs, Operations, Volunteer Services, and Executive Leadership to communicate mission impact while protecting brand integrity.
  12. Responsible for representing and presenting Light of Life at events, churches, businesses, and other organizations throughout the city.
  13. Shared responsibility for representing Light of Life to the media.
  14. Make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific Mission needs.
  15. Maintain strong lines of communication with colleagues in Programs and Administration to ensure synergy in achieving fundraising goals and objectives.

Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or related field.
• 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience.
• Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
• Experience leading integrated marketing campaigns and supervising staff.
• Experience with nonprofit fundraising communications preferred; Virtuous experience desirable.
