CLA is looking for an Assistant Controller with Nonprofit industry experience, to join our CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice based out of either our Milwaukee or Green Bay, WI office location. As a member of CLA's CAAS practice, you will be an integral part of the CLA client service team and will work directly 1:1 with our clients to provide customized accounting services to support them as they manage and grow their business or organization.
In this role, you will work independently at client locations and report directly to the Principal in charge of the client relationship. You will be responsible for supervising the accounting team on each engagement which may include a combination of CLA staff and client staff. You are responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial statements and statistical information to the client's leadership team as well as implementing financial and operational best practices related to the client's specific industry.

As an Assistant Controller, you will:

  • Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client's accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.

  • Act as a consultant and advisor to your clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.

  • Provide project management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.

  • Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.

  • Foster and build opportunities for our clients, communities, and people.

  • Become an industry professional and attend industry-leading events and trainings.

  • Maintain knowledge of the client's organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.

What you will need:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.

  • Experience: 4 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required.

  • Public accounting experience preferred.

  • Relevant work experience with Nonprofit is highly preferred.

  • Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. QuickBooks experience is preferred.

  • Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).

  • Travel: This position requires working primarily in-office with frequent local travel to/from client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.

  • An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting
