EDITORIAL ASSISTANT, THE CUT WHO WE ARE

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Cut is looking for an Editorial Assistant to support the site across news writing and editorial operations. This person will start the day for our readers by scanning the news each morning, identifying the most important stories across all areas of the site (Power, Culture, Self, and Style), and writing them up in the Cut's voice and style. They'll contribute two blogs per day, with the expectation that the first post will be up by 10:00 AM.

In addition to writing, this person will handle administrative editorial responsibilities, including managing the editorial calendar, scheduling and coordinating meetings, organizing agendas and notes, tracking deadlines across desks, and providing general support to the editorial team.

We're looking for someone who obsessively follows culture (from politics to celebrity) and knows what makes a Cut story. You should have strong news judgment, excellent organizational skills, and a good sense of work ethic and humor!

WHO YOU ARE

Responsibilities

  • Work with and report to the News Editor, who oversees all news posts on the blog
  • Mornings spent identifying stories to write up
  • Write two short news posts per day, aiming to engage readers with the Cut's tone, with the first post up by 10:00 AM
  • Closely follow politics, culture trends, and celebrity news
  • Actively monitor social media to keep on top of breaking news and current trends
  • Afternoons spent providing administrative support to staff and EIC, including managing the daily schedule, coordinating meetings, itineraries for travel and events
  • Manage the editorial and events calendar, tracking key dates, deadlines, and team-wide meetings
  • Conduct research on brands, talent, and upcoming events, and assist in creating pitch decks
  • Regularly organize the fashion and beauty closets, and help with sample logistics for style team as needed for shoots 
  • Assist in planning and coordinating staff all hands i.e. Cut Summit, award shows, etc.  
  • Ensure the office runs smoothly by coordinating with editors and staff on anything they may need

Prerequisites

  • 2 years of writing experience
  • Calendar management experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve
  • Write quickly and cleanly, as your day begins before the editors' do
  • Strong understanding of Cut tone and sensibility
