Job Summary
The Assistant Bar Manager supports the Bar Manager in leading all beverage operations while helping create an exceptional guest experience. This role is responsible for supervising daily bar operations, coaching bartenders and barbacks, maintaining beverage quality standards, controlling inventory, and ensuring compliance with all alcohol service laws and company policies. 
The Assistant Bar Manager is a hands-on leadership position and is expected to work alongside the team during busy shifts while maintaining high standards of service, cleanliness, safety, and accountability. He/She will be supporting the team, engaging with guests, and ensuring smooth operations. This position serves as the Manager on Duty in the absence of the Bar Manager.
Responsibilities
  •  Leadership & Team Development 
    •  Assist in hiring, onboarding, and training bartenders and barbacks. 
    •  Lead by example through professionalism, hospitality, and teamwork. 
    •  Supervise bar operations during assigned shifts. 
    •  Coach employees on service standards, product knowledge, and upselling. 
    •  Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily goals. 
    •  Assist with performance evaluations and disciplinary coaching. 
    •  Promote a positive, respectful, and accountable work environment.
  • Guest Experience 
    •  Deliver exceptional hospitality and ensure every guest feels welcomed. 
    •  Interact with guests to build relationships and encourage repeat business. 
    •  Resolve guest concerns quickly and professionally. 
    •  Monitor service speed and beverage quality throughout each shift. 
    •  Maintain a fun, energetic atmosphere that reflects the Picasso's Sports Pub brand. 
  • Beverage Operations 
    •  Ensure all drinks are prepared consistently according to company recipes. 
    •  Monitor bar cleanliness, organization, and presentation. 
    •  Assist with opening, shift change, and closing procedures. 
    •  Ensure proper setup and stocking of all bar stations. 
    •  Support execution of promotions, happy hour, and special events.
  • Inventory & Cost Control 
    •  Assist with weekly liquor, beer, wine, and mixer inventory. 
    •  Help maintain accurate inventory records and par levels. 
    •  Monitor product usage to minimize waste and over-pouring. 
    •  Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries. 
    •  Report inventory discrepancies to the Bar Manager. 
  • Cash Handling & POS
    •  Ensure accurate cash handling and register procedures. 
    •  Verify bartender cash-outs and tip reporting. 
    •  Review voids, discounts, and comps for accuracy. 
    •  Assist with POS updates for beverage menus and promotions. 
  • Compliance & Safety
    •  Enforce responsible alcohol service and ID verification policies. 
    •  Ensure compliance with North Carolina ABC regulations. 
    •  Maintain health, sanitation, and safety standards. 
    •  Verify that all opening and closing checklists are completed. 
    •  Report accidents, incidents, and safety concerns promptly. 
  • Scheduling & Administrative Support
    •  Assist with scheduling bar staff based on business needs. 
    •  Monitor labor costs during shifts. 
    •  Complete shift reports and communicate operational issues to management. 
    •  Help maintain training records and employee documentation.
  • Preferred Experience
    •  Previous Assistant Bar Manager experience. 
    •  High-volume sports bar, restaurant, or entertainment venue experience. 
    •  Experience with Toast POS or similar systems. 
    •  ServSafe Alcohol or TIPS Certification.
