Job description

Position Summary

The Behavior and Security Liaison provides direct support to the campus administrative team in maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment for all students. Working collaboratively with campus administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff, this position assists with student supervision, behavior intervention, classroom support, In-School Suspension (ISS) supervision, behavioral data collection and analysis, and communication with students and families.

The Behavior and Security Liaison serves as a highly visible and proactive adult presence on campus who helps identify and address student behavior concerns before they escalate. The position supports the implementation of campus behavior expectations, assists administrators with student interventions and follow-up, and helps ensure that students who struggle with behavior remain connected to the school community and engaged in the learning process.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, consistency, patience, confidentiality, and the ability to build positive relationships with adolescents while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Supervision and Campus Security

  • Provide a consistent, visible, and positive adult presence throughout the campus.
  • Assist campus administrators with supervision of common areas, hallways, arrival and dismissal, passing periods, lunch, assemblies, and other designated areas.
  • Monitor student behavior and identify potential conflicts or concerns.
  • Respond to student behavior concerns in accordance with campus and district policies and administrative direction.
  • Assist administrators in maintaining an orderly and supportive campus environment.
  • Help identify patterns, locations, times, or circumstances associated with recurring behavior concerns.
  • Support campus safety procedures and immediately communicate significant concerns to the appropriate administrator.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students while modeling appropriate behavior, respect, and accountability.

Behavior Intervention and Student Support

  • Assist administrators with implementing campus behavior interventions and student support plans.
  • Provide immediate, appropriate, and de-escalatory responses to student behavior concerns within the scope of the position.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce behavioral expectations, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, accountability, and appropriate decision-making.
  • Assist students in understanding the impact of their behavior and identifying strategies for making more successful choices.
  • Support restorative and relationship-based approaches to student discipline when appropriate.
  • Assist with student re-entry following disciplinary consequences, including ISS, suspension, or other administrative interventions.
  • Help monitor students with recurring behavioral concerns and communicate observations to campus administrators.
  • Participate in student behavior meetings, intervention meetings, and other support meetings as directed.
  • Refer students to counselors, administrators, or other appropriate support personnel when needs exceed the scope of the position.

Classroom Support

  • Provide support to teachers and administrators when student behavior interferes with the learning environment.
  • Assist with classroom-based behavior interventions as requested by campus administration.
  • Support teachers in implementing consistent campus and classroom behavior expectations.
  • Assist with the transition and re-entry of students following behavioral incidents.
  • Provide temporary supervision or support for students who need to be removed from a classroom due to behavioral concerns, as directed by an administrator.
  • Help teachers and administrators identify behavioral patterns that may require additional interventions or support.

In-School Suspension (ISS) Support

  •  Supervise students assigned to In-School Suspension in accordance with district and campus procedures.
  • Maintain a structured, orderly, and productive ISS environment.
  • Ensure students remain engaged in assigned academic work while serving ISS.
  • Monitor student attendance, assignments, behavior, and completion of assigned work.
  • Reinforce behavioral expectations and assist students in reflecting on the behaviors that resulted in disciplinary consequences.
  • Communicate relevant student progress or concerns to administrators and appropriate staff members.
  • Assist with student re-entry and transition back to the regular classroom environment.

Behavioral Data and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and timely records related to student behavior interventions, ISS assignments, and campus security incidents.
  • Assist administrators in tracking behavior trends and identifying recurring concerns.
  • Organize and summarize behavioral data to help the administrative team identify patterns and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Assist with monitoring individual student behavior trends and intervention outcomes.
  • Provide administrators with timely information regarding significant or recurring student behavior concerns.
  • Maintain accurate documentation while protecting the confidentiality of student information.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports or summaries related to campus behavior trends as requested.

Family and Staff Communication

  •  Assist administrators with routine communication to parents and guardians regarding student behavior, interventions, and follow-up, as directed.
  • Communicate with families in a professional, respectful, and solution-oriented manner.
  • Document parent/guardian contacts and relevant follow-up actions in accordance with campus procedures.
  • Help ensure consistent communication between administrators, teachers, students, counselors, and families regarding behavioral concerns and interventions.
  • Support administrators in communicating expectations, interventions, and next steps to students and families.

Collaboration andProfessional Responsibilities

  • Work closely with campus administrators, teachers, counselors, special programs personnel, and other support staff.
  • Participate in professional learning related to classroom management, behavior intervention, campus safety and security, conflict resolution, de-escalation, restorative practices, and adolescent development.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and sensitive information.
  • Follow all district policies, campus procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrate cultural responsiveness and respect for the diverse backgrounds and needs of students and families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with adolescents in a school, youth development, community, or related setting preferred.
  • Experience in education, student services, behavior intervention, counseling support, youth mentoring, campus supervision, safety and security, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with behavior management, conflict resolution, restorative practices, or de-escalation preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required district background checks and employment requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, criminal justice, youth development, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a high school setting.
  • Experience supporting students with behavioral or social-emotional needs.
  • Training or experience in de-escalation, restorative practices, positive behavior supports, or trauma-informed practices.
  • Experience maintaining student records or using data systems to monitor student behavior and interventions.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to move throughout a large school campus and respond to student and staff needs.
  • May be required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit for extended periods.
  • May occasionally be required to respond quickly to student behavior concerns or emergencies.
  • Must be able to perform assigned duties in a variety of school settings, including classrooms, hallways, common areas, and ISS.
  • Work may involve exposure to stressful or emotionally challenging situations requiring patience, professionalism, and sound judgment.
