Position: Activity Coordinator

Position Summary:

Development and coordination of life enrichment activities designed to promote the residents and adult day care participant’s active involvement with each other, their families and community. Explain, demonstrate and assist life enrichment activities (arts and crafts, songs, dances, and other fun and approved activities) with the residents. These activities are designed to promote the Assisted Living Department as well as the Memory Impaired residents, adult day care and respite participant’s active involvement in these therapeutic activity programs on a daily basis. Work in Memory Lane in the A.M. and in Assisted Living in the afternoon. These activities should meet the residents and other program participant’s needs and interests. All duties pertaining to Summerset as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • College, technical school or other education or experience in related fields, i.e. recreation therapy, social work, or college, technical school and talent demonstrated in related field, etc.
  • Training in basic first and CPR.
  • Good mental and physical health and appearance:
  • Physical examination upon employment and annually thereafter.
  • No known problems with drug addiction and/or alcohol.
  • Alertness and ability to recognize change in resident’s condition.
  • Ability to work congenially with others in administering duties:
  • Ability to develop positive relationship with community resources and families.
  • Ability to work with staff.
  • Possess qualities of loyalty and dependability.
  • Ability to supervise other employees when requested who are assisting with activities.
  • Awareness of resident’s rights.
  • Good administrative and organizational skills.
  • Good driving record.

Report to: Site Manager/Assistant Site Manager. The program should promote enjoyment, satisfaction, physical and emotional well-being, but definitely a sense of purpose.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate each resident/adult day care participant’s interest and capabilities and offer programs to address resident’s needs and enhance their lives by focusing on their strengths and passions to assist in their happiness. Maintain records to assist in helping to ensure a smooth flowing program for each resident.
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate a variety of activities for the residents and other participants. Then off fun educational and safe activities.
  • Encourage resident participation in planning activities.
  • Encourage family and staff involvement.
  • Prepare a list of materials that would be good for the life enrichment and enjoyment of the residents. Get site manager’s or the designee’s approval.
  • Include at least performances per month, i.e., pianist, music, dancing, etc. ( This should be discussed with assistant site manager.)
  • Use FREE entertainment when possible, since so many people will come and volunteer.
  • Prepare a monthly calendar for planned activities.
  • Work with manger in planning, developing and implementing Alzheimer’s Support Program.
  • Maintain an inventory of activity supplies.
  • Responsible for seasonal decorations.
  • Assist in arranging for transportation as related to activities’ programs.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of activity supplies.
  • Responsible for reading and adhering to all facility policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for attending job related educational meetings and in-services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
  • Supervise CNAS and assign task to those employees as needed.
