Job description

Jennie Joiner with Forum Group PNW is partnering with a well-established Eugene-based organization to find a Property & Compliance Accountant to join their corporate accounting team. This is a newly created position and a great opportunity for an experienced Staff Accountant who enjoys variety and wants to expand their skill set beyond traditional general ledger accounting. The position will have a unique blend of property accounting, leases, property tax, compliance, fixed assets, and general accounting responsibilities. While prior property tax and/or compliance experience would be especially helpful, the organization is open to teaching many aspects of the position to someone who brings a solid accounting foundation, strong attention to detail, and the ability to learn. This is also a developing role within an accounting team that is being reorganized, creating the potential for additional responsibilities and career growth over time.

What You'll Do

  • Manage accounting and administration related to property leases, including rent payments and lease information
  • Maintain lease schedules and support ASC 842 accounting and compliance
  • Process common area maintenance (CAM) charges and annual reconciliations
  • Maintain fixed asset records and complete monthly fixed asset accounting
  • Prepare and review personal and real property tax filings
  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax schedules, returns, and other required filings as assigned
  • Apply for, renew, track, and maintain business licenses and permits
  • Complete recurring regulatory and compliance filings accurately and on time
  • Support compliance requirements associated with existing operations and new locations
  • Assist with accounting related to capital assets, building repairs and maintenance, leases, and other property-related activity
  • Participate in period-end and year-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and variance analysis
  • Prepare documentation and provide support for the annual financial audit
  • Partner with other members of the accounting department and assist with additional accounting projects as needed

What We're Looking For

  • Approximately 3–5 years of accounting experience
  • Property tax, lease accounting, property accounting, tax, and/or compliance experience is highly desirable
  • Public accounting experience is welcomed, including candidates interested in transitioning into corporate accounting
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Experience working within an ERP system
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately complete filings, forms, and supporting documentation
  • Ability to manage recurring deadlines and multiple areas of responsibility
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable learning new areas of accounting and compliance
  • Degree not required for candidates with the right combination of accounting experience and skills

This is a 100% onsite position in Eugene, Oregon, working Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The organization offers a comprehensive benefits package. This is not a position where you need to walk in knowing every aspect of property accounting, leases, and compliance on day one. The organization is looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation who is curious, detail-oriented, and interested in continuing to grow. Also open to considering candidates coming out of public accounting who desire broader accounting exposure. You'll have the opportunity to develop experience in property tax, lease accounting, ASC 842, fixed assets, compliance, audit support, and corporate accounting while joining an established organization with room for advancement as the accounting team continues to evolve.

If you're looking for a role where you can expand your skill set, take ownership of a newly created position, and continue growing your accounting career, reach out to Jennie Joiner directly to find out more or apply online today!
