Our award-winning team KXAN News team is now accepting applications for an eveningAssignment Editor/Digital Content Producer. This candidate should be an energetic multitasker who is ready to work in tandem with our Assignment Manager. In this role, you'll assign daily stories according to personnel available and direct the influx of information coming into the newsroom to ensure in-depth, investigative quality content, contributing to KXAN's #1 newscasts and digital platforms.

This position is ideal for a highly motivated leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is naturally curious, has excellent communication skills and wants to play a pivotal role in our newsroom. We're looking for someone whoexcels atreacting quickly to news developments,has an eye forpotentialstories,and can follow up with the researchneeded to develop impactful pieces. Ideal candidates will possess solidnews judgment, highly tuned organizational skills and the ability to communicate with public information officials and the public - while also building long-term relationships with sources. Multi-tasking and prioritizing a list of requests under deadline are also essential.

Duties include:

  • Collaborate with news team to make coverage decisions
  • Assign, communicate, and coordinate logistics for story coverage
  • Assistwithnewsgatheringandresearch - source outreach (calls, text, email)
  • Lead the charge on mining social media and email for information to disseminate to the newsroom
  • Be the voice to viewer calls and the face to KXAN guests/interviewees
  • Keep the newsroom organized and functioning seamlessly nightside
  • Coordinate communication and content sharing between Nexstar Stations
  • Lead special event planning and other advance credentialing
  • Write/publishdigitalstories
  • Updatecontent on KXAN digital platforms
  • Post stories to KXAN social media
  • Send push alerts to stories via our news app

The Assignment Editor must be able to stand, sit, conduct telephone conversations and interviews, use email, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.Repetitive movements are required.
