Job Description

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform testing of soils, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt materials in support of construction materials testing projects. This position is responsible for conducting laboratory tests, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with applicable ASTM, AASHTO, and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and company procedures.
  • Conduct testing including Proctor compaction, sieve analysis, Atterberg Limits, sand equivalent, uncompacted voids, compression testing, and other standard laboratory procedures.
  • Perform asphalt testing including ignition oven, Marshall/Gyratory, maximum theoretical density (Rice), and related testing methods.
  • Receive, sample, split, process, and prepare materials for testing.
  • Accurately record, calculate, and report test results.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, testing areas, and quality control documentation.
  • Ensure testing is performed in accordance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with laboratory operations and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience performing laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and/or asphalt materials preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and industry-standard laboratory testing procedures.
  • ATTI/ASTM/AASHTO Soils and Aggregate certification preferred.
  • ATTI Asphalt certification preferred.
  • ACI Concrete Strength Testing certification preferred.
  • Training may be provided for qualified candidates with relevant experience and aptitude.

Required Skills

  • Strong mathematical skills and ability to perform testing calculations accurately.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience entering and maintaining testing data.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds on a regular basis as part of daily laboratory operations.
