Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Asphalt Technician to support laboratory and manufacturing operations involving asphalt and roofing materials. This role will perform testing, analysis, troubleshooting, and quality control activities to ensure products meet established specifications and performance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing and analysis of asphalt, roofing materials, and related products.
  • Prepare and evaluate asphalt and roofing material samples according to established procedures.
  • Conduct physical and performance testing to verify products meet quality specifications.
  • Record, analyze, and interpret laboratory test results.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, test data, and documentation.
  • Assist with troubleshooting product or process issues and identify potential causes of quality deviations.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and quality teams to investigate and resolve material or production concerns.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment and instruments.
  • Calibrate equipment and perform routine inspections to ensure accurate testing.
  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Assist with developing or improving laboratory testing methods and procedures.
  • Train and provide technical guidance to junior laboratory technicians as needed.
  • Support research, product development, and process improvement projects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and work environment.
  • Communicate test results, findings, and recommendations to engineering, quality, and manufacturing personnel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Previous laboratory or quality-control experience in asphalt, roofing, construction materials, polymers, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory testing procedures and quality-control principles.
  • Experience handling and testing asphalt or similar construction materials preferred.
  • Ability to accurately collect, document, and analyze technical data.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and follow technical procedures, specifications, and laboratory methods.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for recording and analyzing test data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to safely handle materials and operate laboratory equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and work in a laboratory or manufacturing environment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move laboratory samples and materials as required.
  • Ability to work around manufacturing equipment, asphalt, heat, and industrial environments.
  • Must follow all required safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
