Position Overview
The Asphalt Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of asphalt plant(s) and paving operations within the assigned region for HK Contractors. This role leads production, quality control, crew management, and logistics coordination to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Safety & Compliance
  • Champion a safety-first culture by enforcing CRH safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, job site inspections, and training for plant and field personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.

Operations Management
  • Oversee daily operations of asphalt plant(s) and paving crews.
  • Plan and execute production schedules to meet project timelines and customer demand.
  • Monitor plant performance, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

Quality Control
  • Ensure asphalt mix designs meet DOT specifications and customer requirements.
  • Partner with quality control teams to monitor materials and finished product integrity.
  • Address and resolve quality issues proactively.

Financial & Performance Management
  • Manage budgets, including labor, materials, fuel, and equipment costs.
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production rates, margins, and efficiency.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
  • Support bidding, estimating, and project forecasting efforts as needed.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop plant operators, supervisors, and paving crews.
  • Promote a collaborative and accountable team environment aligned with CRH values.
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, and workforce planning.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in asphalt plant operations, paving, or construction materials.
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of asphalt production, mix designs, and paving practices.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations (MSHA/OSHA) and environmental compliance.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred
  • Experience with DOT projects and specifications.
  • Knowledge of plant automation systems and production software.
  • Heavy equipment operation and maintenance knowledge.
  • Leadership training or certifications.
