Job description

The Culinary Arts teacher is responsible for the hands-on culinary arts program and must be passionate for culinary education, have a commitment to experiential learning, and capable of inspiring students in the area of nutrition, food systems, and culinary creativity.


Description:

  • An understanding that education is an atmosphere, a discipline, and a science of relations.
  • An understanding that teaching is a ministry
  • Possesses outstanding interpersonal, oral, writing and technology skills..
  • The ability to collaborate with teachers and partner with parents
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • The ability to disciple and mentor all students

Responsibilities

  • Develop curriculum and provide excellent instruction
  • Demonstrate sound classroom management skills
  • Cultivate a positive learning environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking
  • Deliver hands-on, project-based instruction that integrates work in a greenhouse setting, gardening, nutrition, sustainable cooking practices, health, and practical life skills
  • Strengthen students' understanding of garden and kitchen connections
  • Foster an understanding of the connection between food, health, and the environment
  • Maintain the teaching kitchen, oversee the inventory and manage the program budget
  • Collaborate with the Outdoor Education team to help maintain the garden
  • Develop partnerships with local farms, food suppliers, and community organizations to enhance the curriculum
  • Work with SBA's Outdoor Education team and STEAM team in developing a shared experience
  • Maintains a professional standard of dress and an engaging personality
  • Prompt and continuous attendance on campus


Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to sponsor extra-curricular activities, trip(s) or classes in order to engage students and build relationships.
  • Elementary classes will be offered on a rotation basis or as an extra-curricular activity.
  • Willingness to obtain an ACSI certificate and be willing to pursue certification in a specified timeframe.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Culinary Arts, Agriculture, Hospitality Management, or related field is required. A Master's Degree is preferred.
