What you will be responsible for:

We are looking for an experienced architect to join our integrated architecture and engineering team focusing on volumetric prefabricated offsite construction and onsite assembly of single-family homes. You will be responsible for architectural documentation, permitting processes, coordinating with Aro's procurement organization, responding to manufacturing requests and inquiries, and supporting Site Operations during the assembly of Aro homes.


This role focuses on developing and improving the core house products, systems and data need to keep current approvals of State Approved designs and documentation, documentation need to plant and site assembly, and data for procurement of modeled and non-modeled materials. You will interface with engineering, manufacturing, site operations and procurement on a daily basis, responding to product focused change requests, and new material research and part specification and part number generation ensuring all change is managed through multiple systems and part numbers.


This position requires visits to the company's Sacramento, CA plant.


What You'll Do:

  • Design and technical development: Transform conceptual designs into plans, specifications and details that meet the aesthetic and functional requirements of our modular product.
  • Product level permitting: Ensure all architectural plans adhere to state and local building codes and safety standards, managing the state level permitting process for our product.
  • Manage material selection: Coordinate with our sales and procurement teams to identify materials options and coordinate their implementation in the product.
  • Lead cost reduction initiative and implementation throughout the home: This includes vendor outreach, quote review, sample ordering/review, shop drawing review, feedback implementation, internal design reviews, Procurement coordination, developing implementation plans, updating Revit/FID/Field Kit documentation, and coordinating Onshape documentation.
  • Field Kit and FID coordination. This includes reviewing current documentation, cross checking it against Onshape, coordinating with Procurement and the Onshape modeling team to update documentation with new part numbers and details with the most current product information. Once a cost reduction initiative has been chosen for a particular upcoming home, these documents are updated accordingly.
  • FID conversion from Revit to Onshape: Coordination with the Onshape team to provide document review and comments. Maintenance of data and documentation in both systems until parity can be achieved in Onshape to ensure the Site Operation is working with complete information across the Architecture scopes.
  • Revit Documentation: Update and maintain Field Installation Drawings. Manage and update drawings split between Product and project Revit models. Update and revision control NTA sheets as the product evolves through change request and continuous improvement.
  • Onshape Documentation Coordination: Coordinate changes with Onshape team as scope shifts from Site to Plant, including shop drawing review and feedback, BOM review against non-modeled materials list.
  • RFI Coordination: Provide responses, update drawings/FID/Field Kits as needed resolve issues that come up during manufacturing or field installation.
  • Procurement Coordination: Work directly with the Procurement team to provide feedback and review PO's, review part numbers as products are purchased for new homes, coordinate documentation and provide updated documentation as required.
  • Coordination with the Design Team: Coordinate directly with Structural and MEP team when initiatives require updates or feedback to these disciplines, so documentation can be updated accordingly for upcoming issuances.


What You'll Bring:

  • Minimum 7 years' experience in architecture: entitlements, design, permitting, and construction management.
  • Master's in architecture or equivalent.
  • Experience with BIM systems, Revit, AutoCAD, BIM 360 Cloud environment and other similar tools.
  • Experience with Bluebeam for PDF reviews and drawings set compilation.
  • Willingness to learn new product and project delivery methods and software platforms.
  • Willingness to jump in and provide support across the company outside of domain expertise.
  • Onsite construction experience a plus.
