Archives Supervisors are professionals responsible for overseeing the organization, preservation, and accessibility of historical records and documents within an archive. Additionally, they may assist researchers, implement digital archiving solutions, and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards. Their role is crucial in maintaining the integrity and accessibility of valuable information over time.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an archives supervisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Archives Supervisor, you need expertise in archival principles, records management, and typically a degree in library science, history, or a related field. Familiarity with archival management software, digital preservation systems, and knowledge of relevant standards such as DACS or EAD is essential. Effective communication and collaboration with IT staff, archivists, and researchers are crucial to address these complexities and ensure collections remain accessible and secure.

What degree do I need to work in archives?
