Job description

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Architect Design Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, developing, and coordinating the District's design process for architectural and engineering services. This role oversees multiple projects to ensure plans comply with functional program requirements, budgets, environmental and legal requirements, District standards, and project schedules while coordinating with architects, consultants, and District personnel throughout the design process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage, develop, and coordinate the District's design process for A&E Services to ensure plans are within functional program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
  • Manage multiple projects, including engineering repair and critical repair, through interaction with architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely project completion.
  • Oversee the building design process to ensure compliance with District standards and guidelines by working with design professionals and District administrators.
  • Establish and follow a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on qualifications and performance standards.
  • Provide architects with clear and consistent direction regarding project goals, objectives, standards, site requirements, schedules, and budgets.
  • Establish and follow an effective design review process to ensure the design meets the overall goals and objectives of each project.
  • Ensure projects provide maximum value within the approved budget and meet the functional needs of the District, local community, and environment.
  • Review design changes to ensure projects remain within budget.
  • Monitor project planning and design status and report findings, recommendations, and project updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design or the planning and coordination of capital projects, including overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agency projects.
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture or
    engineering 
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board
    or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
