Hiring Dance Teaching Artists for the 2026-27 School Year

Company: Notes in Motion/Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre
Location: New York, NY
Compensation: $45/hour

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion is seeking experienced Dance Teaching Artists - specializing in Hip Hop, African Dance, Latin Dance, K-Pop, Step, Bollywood, Jazz, Modern, early childhood dance, and more - for the 2026-27 school year. Teaching Artist AUDITIONS will take place at our Amanda Selwyn Dance Studio at 412 Broadway, 2nd Fl, New York, NY 10013 on the following date:

  • - September 8, 10:00am - 2:00pm - Audition #2
  • * You will need to be available for the full audition time slot.

Teaching artists lead in-school or after-school dance programs in public schools throughout the five boroughs of NYC. Rates start at $45/hr and include paid time for curriculum and professional development. Since 2000, Notes in Motion has worked with over 400,000 students across the 5 boroughs. Our programs occur within the school day (between 8am-3pm) or after school (3pm-6pm).

Qualified candidates should have:
  • - At least 1-5 days per week available between 8am-3pm (in-school programs) and/or 2:30pm-6pm (after-school programs).
  • - Experience in a variety of dance forms such as Hip Hop, African, Latin, Kpop, Step, Bollywood, Jazz, Modern, early childhood dance and more.
  • - Professional dance background and experience teaching in NYC public schools (or similar settings) with elementary, middle, and/or high school populations.
  • - Choreographic experience in a variety of settings for youth.
  • - Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic speakers a plus

Once Confirmed - What to Prepare for the Audition?

In preparation for the audition, please prepare approximately 10-12 min of content to teach a modified class to the group based on the bulleted class structure below. You will teach other auditioners in the room. We are looking for Teaching Artists to teach substantive technical dance skills and movement vocabulary while nurturing creative expression. We want to see how you manage pacing/flow, model and guide movement, and scaffold both skill building and creative instruction into your teaching. At the top of your class, please state the age group and dance style the class is intended for.

  • - Opening ritual (1 min)
  • - Warm-up highlighting vocab & technical skills (3 min)
  • - Creative/Improvisational activity (3 min)
  • - Choreography (3-5 min)
