Job description

Installs and maintains plumbing systems under supervision of Foreman Plumber.

SCHEDULE: Tuesday-Friday 7a-5:30p. Rotational On-call.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Installs and maintains plumbing operations and systems.
  • Repairs or alters plumbing, steam, gas, and water systems, including the establishment of relevant cost estimates; repairs pipes, opens closed drains, and welds pipes.
  • Repairs, removes, and installs plumbing fittings and cuts, threads, and bends pipes utilizing a cutting torch and other equipment as necessary.
  • Locates, marks, cuts openings in walls, ceilings and floors to install or repair pipes, fittings or fixtures.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, and garbage disposal units; replaces or repairs burst pipes.
  • Joins and secures pipes by using epoxy, welding, soldering, brazing, fusing, caulking, clamps, brackets, or hangers; tests and inspects systems for leaks and malfunctions.
  • Assists in scheduling work orders, completes paperwork, and organizes the shop facilities and equipment.
  • Utilizes Boys Town vehicle to transport supplies and equipment to work locations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of a broad range of construction and remodeling plumbing practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of repairs and replacements of municipal water systems, low- and high-pressure steam, natural gas systems, and skills in installation and repair of plumbing systems.
  • Ability to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions and ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner.
  • Ability to organize assigned tasks for completion.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience including plumbing and construction required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
  • Pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.
  • On-call (continuously or rotationally) to provide support and many work evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Vocational training or plumbing apprenticeship preferred.
  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Requires moderate to heavy physical activity having to stoop, bend, kneel, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance.Work in difficult locations such as crawl spaces, attics, roofs and closets. May work at heights of 10 feet or more. Time may be spent outdoors where temperatures may vary from excessive heat to extreme cold or in a shop environment, which includes dust, noise, and exposure chemicals.
