Job description

SUMMARY 

Mortenson is currently seeking a Cement Mason Journeyman that will be responsible for smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures, using appropriate tools (i.e., hand or power tools, floats, trowels, screeds). 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Spread concrete to specified depth and workable consistency 
  • Prep work utilizing cementitious or finish product to ensure substrate is appropriate for product; set forms to specific standards, such as chipping, bushing, and grinding 
  • Level, smooth, and shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete 
  • Finish concrete surfaces using power trowel, or wet and rub concrete with abrasive stone to create finish; place concrete to ensure proper elevation 
  • Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer 
  • Patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound 
  • Mold expansion joints and edges 
  • Grind, chip, or blast to prep surface for materials, or as finish 
  • Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary 
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels 
  • All other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience 
  • Must have passed Apprentice Aptitude Test 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; knowledge of equipment and their uses; basic mathematical skills (adding, subtracting, division, & multiplication) 
  • Strong teamwork orientation, positive attitude, professional customer service skills, detail orientation, active listening skills, and effective communication including openness to diverse input and feedback 
  • Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements 
  • *Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling: up to 50 lbs.
