WHO YOU ARE
The Packaging Engineer is responsible for creating and developing effective ecommerce packaging designs that are functional, cost effective and meet the project brief and eCommerce customer specifications. This involves generating ideas and concepts, testing designs, working with production teams during the manufacturing process, and reviewing the efficiency of the final packaging.
WHERE YOU WILL WORK
At The AMES Companies Ocala, FL Facility. This facility includes the Carlisle Distribution Center and the AMES Center for Digital Commerce. It is our largest facility -about 1 million sq. ft.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Develop packaging concepts for new and existing products.
  • Prepare designs that are efficient and functional as possible and can transition between the design and manufacturing processes
  • Work with eCommerce and product design and development teams to evaluate packaging requirements throughout the development phases of new products
  • Research and evaluate packing materials and new packaging technologies in the industry to incorporate and prepare packaging designs
  • Document all engineering protocols and develop engineering and manufacturing packaging specifications and ensure compliance to all FDA regulations
  • Design and write test procedures and coordinate performance testing on new products and existing products as needed
  • Collaborate with multifunctional teams to develop and implement eCommerce packaging for new and existing products
  • Develop, manage, and maintain activity schedules for multiple projects concurrently

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering field.
  • 5+ years of related work experience, in product packaging development.
  • Packaging Expertise - knowledge of packaging technology, materials, and the application of sound scientific principles for the development of new and revised packaging
  • Creativity - be creative to develop innovative and functional packaging ideas that match the requirements
  • Problem-solving - trouble shoot issues as they arise, finding solutions to packaging or design problems so the final product is effective
  • Attention to Detail - extremely important to for packaging engineers to pay attention to details to not overlook issues or flaws that could result in suboptimal designs
  • Communication Skills - strong communication skills necessary to work with many cross-functional teams and can explain ideas to their colleagues
  • Technical Expertise- strong technical expertise and working knowledge of multiple packaging related disciplines, such as materials, dispensing systems, aerosols, flexible films, plastic parts and related molding technology, along with scale-up and manufacturing line requirements
  • Technical Competency - Experience and technical competency in primary, secondary and tertiary packaging design, and qualification (e.g., product/package compatibility, manufacturing, and distribution qualification.)
