Position Status: Regular, Full-Time
Supervisor: Ag Reliability Manager
Department: Sugarcane Operations
FLSA: Exempt
Company Overview:
U.S. Sugar produces approximately 6.5 million tons of sugarcane annually on more than 200,000 acres of land in the South Florida area. U.S. Sugar owns and operates the largest private agricultural short line railroad in the country and is the only sugar company in the continental United States that transports its harvested cane supply from its farms and other growers by railroad to its sugar factory.
Position Summary
The primary role of the Ag Maintenance Planner is to improve work force productivity and work quality through the creation of quality preventative and corrective job plans that are inclusive of correct repair process, procedures, accurate components and time required to complete.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Ag Maintenance Planner include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Developing detailed job plans for routine maintenance and overhauls on Fleet Assets using SAP. Fleet includes but is not limited to Tractors, Farm Implements, Self-Propelled Sprayers, Excavators, Mobile and Stationary Pumps. Repair process and practice outlined in job plans must meet best practice for equipment type, or OEM standards as minimum requirement.
  • Solicits feedback from technicians and supervisors to improve effectiveness of job plan.
  • Involved in all processes required to move notifications in SAP to ready to schedule work orders for technicians - scoping, detailed planning, and sourcing correct components both inside and outside of SAP Catalogue.
  • Builds and maintains maintenance task lists and BOM's in SAP
  • Estimating job cost including labor, materials, and contract service requirements.
  • Plans and schedules Preventive (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) and, in partnership with the Reliability Engineer, identifies equipment to include in the PM/PdM program.
  • Maintains a backlog of work for areas of responsibility.
  • Provides analysis and reporting of maintenance performance results including leading and lagging metrics.
  • Regularly communicate with vendors and purchasing on price and availability of materials.
  • All other duties and special projects assigned.

50% of the work environment is conducted in an environmentally controlled office, operating computers, following up with vendors, purchasing, internal suppliers and customers. 10% of the work environment is validating work order kits before delivery to remote job locations. 40% of the work environment is on a large scale farming operation, scoping jobs, meeting with supervisors and technicians reviewing effectiveness of current and previous job plans.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Heavy/Mobile Equipment Maintenance Planning
  • Four (4) year college degree in engineering or related field. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge; skills and abilities will be considered.
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification preferred
  • Demonstrate a sound working knowledge of maintenance cost control programs (labor, material and contractors)
  • Diesel engine experience should span Tier 0 to Tier 4F
  • Experience in maintaining or planning maintenance jobs for Deere Ag & Construction Equipment, CAT Construction Equipment is preferred
  • Experience sustaining Operator Care Programs is preferred
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Must have good written, communication, and math skills.
  • Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP) data inputs, retrieval, and use is required.
  • Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Mechanical/electrical background necessary and familiarity with different types of agricultural equipment including rolling stock (tractors, harvesters, implements, vehicles, etc.), pump and power units, conveyor systems, etc. is desired.
  • Solid understanding of the proper use of work orders, priorities, schedules, etc.
  • Ability to sketch and read blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Must be able to work in a production environment, including overtime and weekends.
  • Must be able to work within a team-based environment and effectively work with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to build effective relationships with internal customers and external vendors and customers.
  • Self-starter, ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver's license required.

  • The employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle and/or move various objects, tools and/or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, talk, hear, and see.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to freely access all areas of the farm including farm offices, tractor sheds, various farm equipment, etc.
  • Ability to move or handle various items throughout the farm generally weighing between 0-65 pounds. Ability to lift and carry up to 65 pounds.
  • Ability to work varied hours and days to oversee multiple operations.
