Job description

Position Title: Temporary Accounts Payable Manager
Location: Olathe, KS
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to step into a high-impact, temporary role supporting a fast-paced, high-volume AP environment. This individual will take ownership of daily AP operations while driving immediate process improvements to reduce backlog, increase efficiency, and stabilize workflows. The ideal candidate is both a hands-on leader and strategic thinker who can quickly assess challenges, implement solutions, and guide a team through change. This role would be 3-6 months with potential for extension. Read below for additional details!
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead day-to-day accounts payable operations in a high-volume setting, ensuring invoices move efficiently from receipt through payment.
  • Develop and execute short-term strategies to reduce outstanding invoice backlog and improve processing turnaround times.
  • Partner with external consultants and system/platform vendors to identify and resolve interface issues impacting invoice automation.
  • Support system testing efforts, validate outcomes, and assist with implementing process improvements to enhance AP workflow reliability.
  • Establish and document standardized procedures for invoice intake, coding, approval, and payment execution.
  • Implement clear prioritization methods to ensure urgent and aging invoices are addressed consistently and effectively.
  • Train, mentor, and guide AP staff on updated procedures, expectations, and best practices to improve accuracy and accountability.
  • Define performance metrics and reporting processes to track backlog, throughput, and overall AP effectiveness.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience managing accounts payable operations in a complex, high-volume environment.
  • Strong expertise in invoice processing, coding, check runs, and ACH payment activities.
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion; familiarity with Basware or similar invoice automation platforms highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, standardize workflows, and deliver measurable operational improvements.
  • Experience collaborating with external vendors, consultants, and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve system and process issues.
  • Ability to balance strategic process improvement initiatives with hands-on execution in daily operations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead teams and influence outcomes.
