Job description

Keller Postmanย representsย a broad array of clients in class and mass actions, individual arbitrations, and multidistrict litigation matters at the trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts. Serving hundreds of thousands of clients in litigation and arbitration, we have prosecuted high-profile mass tort, antitrust, privacy, product liability, employment, and consumer-rights cases. Our firm also acts as plaintiffs' counsel in high-stakes public-enforcement actions. Purpose:ย Keller Postman seeks a Paralegal I to support its practice of representing a broad array of clients as plaintiffs in complex litigation at the trial and appellate levels.ย The Paralegal I willย be responsible forย performing a variety of complex tasks in a fast-paced and demanding environment. Tasks and projects must be executed withย a high levelย of attention to detail.ย 

Paralegals may be based on our D.C. office and work a hybrid schedule of four days per week in the office, one day per week remote. Compensation for the position includes an hourly base salary of $35 to $40 per hour, depending on experience, plus a year-end, performance-based discretionary bonus and benefits.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide administrative and litigation support throughout various phases of cases, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.
  • Assist attorneys with the preparation, formatting, filing, and organization of legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, correspondence, and exhibits using Microsoft Word, CM/ECF, and other systems.
  • Conduct basic factual and legal research using Westlaw and other resources for attorney review.
  • Assist with cite-checking legal documents for Bluebook compliance, Shepardizing authorities, and verifying quoted material and cited exhibits.
  • Organize and maintain case files, pleadings, correspondence, and related materials in both hard copy and electronic case-management systems.
  • Maintain case calendars, deadlines, and document tracking using firm software and organizational systems.
  • Communicate professionally with courts, outside counsel, clients, experts, and vendors as directed.
  • Coordinate with attorneys and internal departments to support efficient workflow and case management processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple assignments.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Basic understanding of federal and state court rules and procedures, or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools and document management systems preferred.
  • Ability to travel for up to one month at a time.

Education/Experience:ย 

  • A minimum of 3 years related experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Westlaw preferred.
  • Experience using the federal courts' CM/ECF system, PACER, and Bluebook is a plus.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.ย 

Certificates/Licenses Required:ย 

  • An ABA-approved Paralegal certificate is preferred.ย 

Language Ability:ย 

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluentย Englishย 

Physical Demands:

  • This job requires remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.ย
