Job Summary/Overall Objectives
Supervises, plans, organizes, and co-ordinates the activities/workflows of the perioperative staff employed in the Pre-admission department. This position works with the managers, supervisors, and directors within perioperative services. They also act as a liaison between perioperative services and IT, customer service, patient accounting, nursing, and the employed and non-employed physicians when appropriate. Develops, implements, and manages reporting related to this position's area of responsibility including but not limited to utilization, charge reconciliation, efficiencies, and quality. Is involved in project management when appropriate
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Align department with strategy map and continually work to implement drivers in support of Independence Health System's mission and vision.
  • Act promptly to resolve problems and initiate better ways of doing things by acting as a catalyst for change.
  • Establish and maintain a safe working environment and assure staff comply with safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines.
  • Equitably apply policies and procedures by issuing corrective action in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Assess customers' needs, exceed customer expectations, and consider customers in decision making to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Act on most urgent tasks, leverage available resources, review own workload, implement workable systems, and provide clear direction.
  • This position has direct supervisory responsibilities and serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
  • Management responsibilities include hiring, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, staff productivity and performance management.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of Perioperative scheduling, Perioperative billing, and preadmission areas within the Preadmission department. Trouble shoots issues/problems when necessary.
  • Assists department directors in the development of policies, procedures, practices, and standards within Perioperative Services.
  • Acts as a liaison between the IT department and Perioperative Services by working with IT in implementing products and processes related to the perioperative areas.
  • Collaborates with physician champions, physicians, and office managers to assist adoption of new technologies and IT solutions related to perioperative services.
  • Assists Managers and Directors in project management activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]
Required Qualifications/Experience
  • Associate degree in Nursing and two (2) years of Nursing experience.
  • Zero (0) to Two (2) years supervisory/management experience in related field.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Ability to demonstrate extensive knowledge in the perioperative service workflow.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Charging.
  • Functional skills on PC and related software (Microsoft office).

Preferred Qualifications/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and four (4) years' experience of Nursing experience.
  • Experience in Healthcare setting; hospital or Physician setting.
  • Prior project management.

License, Certification & Clearances
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania required
  • Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
  • Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
