English Language Development (ELD) Teacher (K-8) - 2026-2027 School Year

Location: 7301 E Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ 85209
Compensation Range: $48,331.25 - $54,571.88 (DOE)
Start Date: Summer 2026

Position Overview

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K-8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.

AMS is seeking a passionate and culturally responsive English Language Development (ELD) Teacher (K-8) to join our team at the AMS Power Campus in Mesa for the 2026-2027 school year.

The ELD Teacher is responsible for supporting multilingual learners in developing English language proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while helping scholars access grade-level academic content across subjects. The ideal candidate will implement research-based instructional strategies that support English learners and help close achievement gaps.

AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe that all scholars can achieve at high levels through strong instructional practices, high expectations, and data-informed teaching.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Achievement

  • Deliver targeted English Language Development instruction aligned with Arizona English Language Proficiency (AZELLA) standards and AMS curriculum frameworks.

  • Support multilingual learners in developing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English.

  • Differentiate instruction to support students at varying English proficiency levels.

  • Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and guide instructional planning.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support English learners' access to grade-level academic content.

Classroom Culture & Student Development

  • Establish and maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for multilingual learners.

  • Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies.

  • Support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.

  • Encourage students to build confidence in their language development and academic abilities.

Collaboration & Professional Growth

  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities (PLCs).

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to support English learners across content areas.

  • Use student performance data to guide instructional improvements and interventions.

  • Contribute to school-wide systems and continuous improvement initiatives.

Family Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student language development and academic progress.

  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and support strong home-school partnerships.

  • Provide resources and guidance to families supporting English learners.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Education, English, Linguistics, ESL, or relevant content area)
    OR

  • Valid Arizona teaching certification in a relevant subject area
    OR

  • Minimum of three (3) years of K-12 teaching experience

Plus:

  • SEI Endorsement or completion of 45 hours of SEI training is required to be considered for the role

Additionally, candidates must:

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills

  • Pass required background checks and obtain an IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card

  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities

  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset

  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment
