We are seeking a highly skilled Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with strong test automation experience to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in building and maintaining automated test frameworks for modern web applications.

This role requires a hands-on engineer who can design robust automation solutions, troubleshoot complex client-side issues, and work closely with developers, product managers, and DevOps teams to ensure high-quality software delivery. The candidate should also be comfortable working with SQL and Python for day-to-day validation, test data analysis, backend verification, and building utilities that support testing and release processes. Experience in trading platforms or within a financial institution is strongly preferred.

Tradeweb Technology jobs are fully remote. The Tradeweb Technology hub is in our Jersey City office which can be used for team meetings and collaboration efforts.  There may be days where travel to the Jersey City office is recommended for organizational off sites.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks for web-based applications. 
  • Create and execute automated functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end test suites. 
  • Support applications built with modern frontend technologies, including Angular and React. 
  • Use modern open-source automation frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, and WebdriverIO. 
  • Debug client-side JavaScript issues using Chrome Developer Tools, including browser console errors, network failures, UI rendering issues, and performance bottlenecks. 
  • Develop and maintain test utilities, support scripts, and validation tools using Python. 
  • Use SQL for data validation, troubleshooting, backend verification, reconciliation, and test data analysis. 
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers, QA, product owners, and DevOps teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle. 
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins. 
  • Work in Linux-based environments for test execution, troubleshooting, scripting, and automation support. 
  • Analyze defects, isolate root causes, and provide clear documentation for issues found during testing. 
  • Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, GPT, or similar platforms to improve productivity, accelerate test creation, and enhance debugging and analysis workflows. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of quality engineering practices, tooling, and automation standards. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 
  • 7+ years of experience in software quality assurance and testing, preferably within financial services or trading systems.
  • Proven experience as an SDET, QA Automation Engineer, or similar role. 
  • Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining test automation frameworks. 
  • Experience with modern open-source JavaScript testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, and WebdriverIO. 
  • Good understanding of testing modern web applications built with Angular, React, or similar JavaScript frameworks. 
  • Strong experience debugging client-side JavaScript errors using Chrome Developer Tools. 
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL for querying databases, validating data, and supporting test investigations. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Python for building utilities, automation helpers, test scripts, and data processing tools. 
  • Experience working with CI/CD tools such as GitLab or Jenkins. Well versed with GIT.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Linux operating system, including command-line usage, scripting, and troubleshooting. 
  • Experience with automated testing for UI, API, and regression testing. 
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a trading environment, capital markets, or a financial institution. 
  • Experience validating transactional workflows, trade data, reconciliations, and downstream system integrations. 
  • Familiarity with APIs, backend services, and database-driven application testing. 
  • Understanding of agile development methodologies and modern software delivery practices.  
  • Exposure to performance testing, service virtualization, or API automation is a plus.

  • This role will also be eligible to participate in Tradeweb's discretionary bonus program. 
  • This role is expected to remain open until 5/25/26
