Title: Senior Power BI Developer

Location: Radnor, PA

This is an individual contributor position which works under general supervision and leads the design, development, and scaling of enterprise Power BI capabilities. This role drives the modernization of business intelligence by leading the strategic migration from legacy reporting platforms (IBM Cognos/AWS QuickSight) to Power BI. The position is responsible for designing enterprise-grade dashboards, writing optimized queries against Amazon Redshift, constructing robust semantic models, and partnering with business stakeholders to translate complex financial data into interactive, high-performance analytics solutions.

As a dynamic and resourceful professional, we will rely on you to perform the following duties:

Power BI Development & Architecture

  •       Design, build, and deploy enterprise-grade Power BI reports, interactive dashboards, and paginated reports mapped to executive-level metrics.
  • Construct robust semantic models and write complex, optimized DAX calculations and advanced Power Query (M) scripts.
  • Administer the Power BI Service tenant environment, managing workspaces, security (RLS/OLS), dataflows, fabric capacities, and automated deployment pipelines.
  • Administer Source Control and DevOps pipelines for code deployment.

 Cognos-to-Power BI Migration & Support

  •           Lead the active, phased migration away from IBM Cognos by auditing legacy Framework Manager models and Report Studio definitions.
  • Map legacy reporting logic into modern Power BI semantic layers, guaranteeing strict data parity and calculation accuracy.
  •       Provide ongoing maintenance and administration support for existing Cognos reports to ensure business continuity during the transition phase.

AWS & Amazon Redshift Optimization

  •          Query, transform, and ingest high-volume financial data directly from cloud data warehouse ecosystem, prioritizing Amazon Redshift.
  • Write and tune advanced, high-performance SQL queries to optimize data extraction, minimizing Redshift cluster load and report latency.
  • Collaborate with ETL Team to align data warehouse schemas with front-end reporting requirements.

Strategic Business Partnership.

  •          Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to map out KPIs unique to operations (e.g., loan performance, delinquency risk, premiums, and pipeline metrics).
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation regarding report lineage, data dictionaries, and migration tracking.
  • Mentor junior team members on advanced Power BI modeling techniques and data visualization standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

 Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  •       Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of five (5) + years of dedicated, hands-on experience developing end-to-end enterprise Power BI solutions (DAX, modeling, connections, and data gateway administration)
  • Minimum of five (5) + years of advanced SQL experience with a proven track record of writing optimized queries against data warehouses, specifically Amazon Redshift
  • Hands-on experience with IBM Cognos Analytics (Framework Manager, Report Studio), with the ability to diagnose legacy logic and support reports during a migration
  • Experience in mortgage insurance, mortgage banking, or broader lending industries preferred
  • Microsoft Certified: PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) or AWS Certified Data Engineer / Cloud Practitioner preferred
  • Experience utilizing Git Repos in Azure DevOps or GitHub for report version control
  • Direct experience building enterprise reports sourced from AWS (Amazon Web Services) data sources
  • Strong understanding of enterprise Power BI development including semantic models, DAX calculations, Power Query (M) scripts, and data gateway administration
  • Experience administering Power BI Service tenant environments, managing workspaces, security (RLS/OLS), dataflows, fabric capacities, and automated deployment pipelines
  • Experience administering Source Control and DevOps pipelines for code deployment
  • Proven ability to lead phased migrations from legacy platforms (IBM Cognos, AWS QuickSight) to Power BI, including auditing Framework Manager models and Report Studio definitions
  • Ability to map legacy reporting logic into modern Power BI semantic layers, guaranteeing strict data parity and calculation accuracy
  • Experience querying, transforming, and ingesting high-volume financial data from cloud data warehouse ecosystems, prioritizing Amazon Redshift
  • Ability to write and tune advanced, high-performance SQL queries to optimize data extraction, minimizing Redshift cluster load and report latency
  • Experience collaborating with ETL teams to align data warehouse schemas with front-end reporting requirements
  • Ability to collaborate directly with business stakeholders to map KPIs (e.g., loan performance, delinquency risk, premiums, and pipeline metrics)
  • Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to translate complex financial reporting transitions into universal language for business stakeholders
  • Experience maintaining comprehensive documentation regarding report lineage, data dictionaries, and migration tracking
  • Ability to mentor junior team members on advanced Power BI modeling techniques and data visualization standards
  • Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent deliverables on time and with quality in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, documentation, and collaboration skills
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities with conflicting deadlines

Our commitment to your success is enhanced by our competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and disability benefits. We work to maintain a positive environment for our employees, where people can learn and grow with the company. Essent is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
