Our organization is proud to present Carolinas Medical Center (CMC), the premier academic medical center in Charlotte and a key referral center for the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute. CMC operates as an 874-bed facility, offering tertiary and quaternary care, specializing in advanced heart and vascular treatments throughout the Carolinas. We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of a state-of-the-art 12-story care facility, set to open in spring 2027. This significant project, which commenced construction in July 2023, will include 448 patient rooms, 38 operating rooms, 16 procedure rooms, and a new emergency department. CMC stands as the only Level I Trauma Center in the region and serves as a transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver.

As one of North Carolina's five Academic Medical Center teaching hospitals, CMC provides residency training for over 200 physicians across 15 specialties and acts as a regional campus for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, located in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

CMC offers a wide range of heart and vascular services, including:

• Comprehensive electrophysiology
• Advanced heart failure management
• Interventional cardiology
• Cardiac surgery
• Mechanical circulatory support

We are home to the only heart transplant program and pediatric heart surgery program in the region, making us a vital center for complex adult and congenital cardiac care.

Our institute is recognized as one of the largest cardiac and vascular programs in the Southeast, featuring:

• Over 140 physicians across more than 25 locations in North and South Carolina
• More than 50 years of experience in delivering comprehensive acute and chronic cardiovascular services
• The only heart transplant center and pediatric heart surgery program in the region
• Access to cutting-edge clinical trials, IRCAD NA experiential learning, and the Wake Forest School of Medicine Charlotte campus

Our dedicated team consists of:

• Four intraprocedural imagers
• Two experienced clinic-based physicians integrated within our multidisciplinary valve clinic

We manage a high-volume structural heart program, performing over 450 TAVR procedures, 70+ mitral interventions, 20+ tricuspid interventions, and more than 300 left atrial appendage occlusion cases annually. Our team actively participates in significant clinical trials assessing structural heart therapies, providing ample opportunities for research focused on imaging in echocardiography, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI.

We utilize the latest technology, including:

• Philips echo equipment
• Siemens Alpha Photon CT scanner
• Siemens 3T and 1.5T cardiac MRIs

• Weekend coverage: Nine weekends per year (Saturday/Sunday)
• Weeknight calls: Approximately 2-3 per month

• 2-3 imaging days (including 1 day in the OR)
• 1-2 clinic days (cardiology clinic and valve center clinic participation)
• Protected administrative time for directorship duties

We are seeking candidates who meet the following criteria:

• Board Eligible/Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease
• Board Eligible/Board Certified in Echocardiography (Level III required)
• Board Eligible/Board Certified in Cardiac CT and/or Cardiac MRI
• A minimum of 3 years of practice experience post-fellowship
• Advanced training in intraprocedural echocardiography (through an advanced imaging fellowship or over 2 years of experience in transcatheter mitral/tricuspid valve interventions and left atrial appendage occlusion procedures)
• Experience in the pre- and peri-operative care of patients with valvular heart disease
• A commitment to active participation in a multidisciplinary heart team, synthesizing and presenting multi-modality imaging data
• A desire for an academically focused clinical role utilizing cutting-edge technology and engaging in clinical research
