Estimator / Project Manager – Electrical Division

AJP Electric, Inc. is seeking an experienced and driven Estimator / Project Manager to join our growing Electrical Division in Phoenix, Arizona.

civil contractor. Our work includes commercial electrical ground-up projects, transportation infrastructure, and wet/dry utility installations for both public and private sector clients.

Position Overview

This role combines both estimating and project management responsibilities, making it ideal for a professional who enjoys owning projects from bid through closeout.

You will lead estimating efforts, develop competitive bids, manage project execution, maintain client relationships, and help ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Preconstruction

  • Review plans, specifications, drawings, and proposal documents to define project scope
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive bids
  • Develop value engineering opportunities and cost-saving strategies
  • Prepare and present bid proposals professionally to clients and stakeholders
  • Maintain organized estimating files, assumptions, and supporting documentation

Project Management

  • Manage projects from preconstruction through final completion
  • Develop and maintain project schedules while proactively addressing potential delays
  • Coordinate procurement activities and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Monitor budgets, productivity, job costs, and project performance
  • Conduct site visits and collaborate closely with field teams to maintain quality and schedule
  • Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, and closeout documentation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, general contractors, vendors, and project teams

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive experience estimating electrical construction projects
  • Experience managing commercial electrical construction projects
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, and project delivery
  • Experience working for or closely with General Contractors
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical field background or prior hands-on electrical experience
  • Experience with commercial ground-up projects
  • Knowledge of transportation and utility infrastructure projects
