To thrive as an Airbnb Designer, you need expertise in interior design principles, spatial planning, and a strong understanding of creating appealing, functional spaces for short-term rentals. Job description

The Community You Will Join:

Our team builds, operates and maintains Airbnb's global video production and large-scale audiovisual infrastructure in our event spaces, collaboration hubs and large specialty conference rooms at offices around the world. We work closely with the Infrastructure builds team, the live production crew and the office of the CEO to deliver highly functional and reliable AV infrastructure.

The Difference You Will Make:

  • Hands-on experience in overseeing design, build, commissioning, and maintenance phases of 30-100 person multipurpose spaces, boardrooms and large conference room AV systems in concert with external AV consultants and AV integrators.
  • R&D of new technologies, and innovative designs, to use in these systems, build and test proofs of concept. Includes research into the exciting frontier of AI technologies.
  • Working closely with our IT builds project management team throughout the design and build phases.
  • Assist in the design and operation of broadcast-grade AV infrastructure for large-scale event spaces supporting audiences of 100-1,000 people.

A Typical Day:

  • No two days look the same. One morning you might be in our lab, hands-on with the latest equipment, running proof-of-concept tests to see what's worth bringing into our ecosystem. By afternoon, you could be deep in a broadcast studio commission, making sure every system fires exactly the way it should.
  • Some weeks take you further afield - hopping a flight to one of our global offices to work alongside local AV integrators, walking a brand-new gathering space through commissioning and testing until it meets the standard you designed it to. Other days are all about the people: syncing with cross-functional partners, aligning on what's next, and making sure AV is never an afterthought.
  • Variety isn't a perk here - it's the job.

Your Expertise:

  • 10+ years experience in AV system design, integration and implementation. Emphasis on design for reliability and supportability.
  • Q-SYS Certifications level 2
  • Qsys programming and commissioning (Control, UI and DSP programming/troubleshooting, Camera tracking experience a plus)
  • Zoom Rooms as a VC platform (commissioning, administration, testing and troubleshooting)
  • Experience with broadcast AV systems (video cameras, video switchers, digital audio mixing consoles, and SDI/IP backbone infrastructures)
  • Programming and troubleshooting digital signal processing systems (QSC, Biamp, Yamaha etc..) and Dante networked audio routing and configuration
  • Expert at troubleshooting complex systems (audio, video, network, control)
  • Thorough comprehension of and ability to create AV schematics
  • Working knowledge of IP networking design and troubleshooting along with basic switch configuration and vlans.
  • Ability to assess, identify, manage and mitigate risk factors across complex systems
  • Project management experience (ability to plan and coordinate with others, drive progress forward)
  • Ability to research, clarify, condense and document complex R&D projects
  • Experience with technical and end-user documentation of projects (as-builts, runbooks, troubleshooting guides)
  • Based onsite daily in San Francisco, with occasional domestic and international travel to commission new systems at our global offices

Your Location:

This position is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role requires availability to work onsite in the 888 Brannan St headquarters at least 4 days a week.
