What is an Airbnb Student?

An Airbnb Student typically refers to a student who uses Airbnb to find temporary accommodation, especially for studying abroad, internships, or attending university in a new city. Students often choose Airbnb for flexible, short-term, and affordable housing options. Some students may also work with Airbnb as campus ambassadors or in internship roles, helping to promote the platform among their peers. Airbnb offers special discounts and resources for students to make travel and relocation easier. It's important for students to verify listings, communicate clearly with hosts, and understand Airbnb's safety policies.

What is the difference between Airbnb Student vs Airbnb Host?

AspectAirbnb StudentAirbnb Host
Required CredentialsNone specific, but may include student ID or proof of enrollmentProperty ownership or rental agreement, basic hosting knowledge
Work EnvironmentPart-time, flexible, often on-campus or nearbyHome-based, involves managing bookings and guest interactions
Employer & Industry UsagePlatform for students to find short-term accommodations or earn incomeIndividuals or property owners offering spaces for rent

Airbnb Student typically refers to students using the platform for accommodation or earning income, while Airbnb Host involves individuals managing and renting out their properties. Both roles are integral to the Airbnb ecosystem but differ in responsibilities and credentials.

What are some common challenges faced by students working as Airbnb hosts while balancing academic responsibilities?

Students running an Airbnb listing often face challenges in managing their time effectively, as guest communication, cleaning, and check-ins can overlap with class schedules and study commitments. It's essential to establish clear check-in times, automate messaging where possible, and, if needed, collaborate with roommates or hire cleaning services to ensure a smooth guest experience. By setting boundaries and leveraging Airbnb's tools, student hosts can maintain high guest satisfaction while keeping up with their academic workload.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Airbnb Host, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Airbnb Host, you need strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities, often supported by experience in hospitality or property management. Familiarity with the Airbnb platform, online booking systems, and property management tools is important. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and adaptability help build positive guest experiences and handle unexpected issues. These skills ensure high guest satisfaction, positive reviews, and the smooth operation of rental properties.

Job description

Role Overview:

Join our team this summer as a Property Management Intern! This paid internship offers students hands-on experience in business operations, hospitality management, entrepreneurship, and strategic problem-solving. Interns will develop transferable skills that stand out on resumes and future job applications.

Detailed Description:

We are a growing property management business that runs multiple Airbnb rental properties across New Hampshire, including one of the largest Airbnbs in New England, located on a beautiful farm in the country. The internship will primarily focus on this main farmhouse property, a unique large-scale farm-stay destination that hosts guests from across the country. During our busy summer season, interns will help manage daily operations, guest experiences, logistics, and problem-solving across a dynamic hospitality environment.

  • This paid internship offers flexible hours and a hybrid environment where you will engage in both in-person and online guest interactions.

Throughout the internship, you will gain hands-on experience coordinating guest experiences, organizing logistics, and ensuring smooth operations for a wide range of groups. This also includes helping ensure the smooth operation of the wide range of amenities we offer, including a stocked trout pond, horseback riding, swimming and hot tub areas, and disc golf. A key part of this role is being proactive and creative in maintaining and improving these experiences so guests can enjoy the activities on the property!

Day to Day Tasks:

Students interested in business, entrepreneurship, management, marketing, hospitality, communications, or operations will gain valuable professional experience applicable across many career paths.

  • Assist with managing end-to-end property and hospitality operations
  • Complete various online and administrative tasks related to Airbnb platform management and business operations
    • Help develop strategic pricing and availability decisions to maximize bookings and guest satisfaction
    • Manage automated messaging systems and respond to guest questions and requests online
  • Collaborate effectively within a small, fast-paced team environment. Proactively identify and solve operational challenges in real time
    • Coordinate with team members and contribute ideas to improve property spaces and guest experiences
    • Support vendor relationships and coordinate maintenance needs when issues arise
    • Lead guided farm tours and create engaging experiences for guests

Preferred Qualifications

The role requires strong communication skills, creativity, patience, and adaptability.

  • No experience necessary — we will teach you!
  • However, interns should be personable; feeling comfortable interacting with the public, meeting new people, and adapting to situations as they arise in a fast-paced environment. Applicants should also have strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • For online responsibilities, applicants should have strong writing and organizational skills and be comfortable using technology and navigating online tools. Familiarity with the Airbnb platform is a plus.
