Job description

Assistant General Counsel - Coverage Litigation

AIG's Global Legal, Compliance, Regulatory and Government Affairs (GLCR) department is comprised of attorneys and other professionals who provide highquality advisory and transactional support with integrity and objectivity across all parts of the organization. The team ensures an operating environment that minimizes legal, regulatory, and reputational risk, complies with applicable laws and regulations, and enforces AIG policies and procedures.

AIG's GLCR department is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Assistant General Counsel in its Corporate Litigation Group, a team comprised of highperforming, experienced attorneys handling complex and highstakes matters across the organization. In this role, the Assistant General Counsel will take ownership of complex insurance coverage litigation involving commercial property and specialty lines policies, while serving as a strategic legal advisor to AIG's Claims organization. The position provides exposure to highstakes disputes across U.S. and international markets, meaningful collaboration with senior legal and business stakeholders, and the ability to exercise sound professional judgment on litigation strategy, risk assessment, and resolution. This is a highimpact position with responsibility for matters that can present significant financial, legal, and reputational considerations for the organization.

Job Description:

Manage a litigation docket consisting of insurance coverage matters involving property and specialty lines policies issued to commercial insureds in the United States and abroad;

Oversee and partner with outside counsel to ensure highquality written advocacy and consistent litigation positions on behalf of AIG member insurance companies;

Exercise sound legal judgment in making strategic litigation decisions with a focus on consistency, risk, and broader business impact;

Develop and execute casespecific resolution strategies and provide wellreasoned recommendations;

Evaluate and make recommendations regarding the initiation of coverage litigation on behalf of AIG member insurance companies;

Serve as a strategic legal advisor to business and Claims partners, including by providing coverage advice in advance of litigation;

Travel domestically or internationally, as needed, for mediations, trials, and oral arguments; and

Report to an Associate General Counsel who maintains close oversight of matters handled by the team.

Education/Experience

Attorney with at least five years of major law firm experience strongly preferred;

J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials;

Admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction;

Litigation and insurance coverage experience required; and

Prior inhouse experience is useful but not required.

  • Sound legal and business judgment.

For positions based in New Jersey, the base salary range is $142,000-178,000 and for positions based in New York, the base salary range is $144,000-180,000 In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
