Job description

The Agape Assistant Cook, with the leadership and support of the Agape Service Project Director and Agape Head Chef, will work to serve the parish and school groups of Agape Service Project by managing the seasonal food service program. The Agape Head Chef and Agape Assistant Cook will work in collaboration to achieve all aspects of managing the kitchen.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with the Agape team to accomplish the program mission and goals

• Build relationships while working with and serving the farmworker families, fellow staff, youth, adult leaders, and volunteers

• Implement food program and menu

• Recruit, train and supervise kitchen volunteers

• Order, receive, and store food and cleaning supplies in accordance with local health standards

• Use appropriate kitchen equipment including electrical and mechanical safely to follow local health standards

• Prepare and serve tasty meals and snacks based on menu in sufficient quantity, honoring allergies/dietary needs, minimizing waste, and when possible – prioritizing local, organic, fair-trade foods

• Monitor cleanliness of dishes, food contact surfaces, and kitchen area

• Log fridge and freezer temperatures and monitor dishwashers by logging the dishwasher temperature

• Work to build a hospitable environment for Agape groups

• As needed: support additional aspects of the Agape program (Food Bank, food distribution, spring planning efforts, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A good example for youth and have a servant’s heart

• Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church

• Previous cooking experience

• Commitment to the mission and values of Agape Service Project

• Strong communication skills

• Be able to work well with and lead a wide range of ages, from youth to adults, and peers

• Have a passion for social justice and desire to build community with local farmworker families

• Ability to work under pressure in time constraints

• Must be able to lift, unload, move food and supplies (at least 25 pounds)

• Current CPR/First aid and Food Handlers required (or willingness to obtain prior to season)

• Ability to work evenings and/or weekends

LOGISTICS:

• Start date: June 8; End date: August 21

• 25 hours per week

• Agape Service Project operates on the campus of Assumption Catholic Church and School. All meals are prepared and served at this campus. Address: 2116 Cornwall Ave, Bellingham, WA. Chef and cook will be responsible for arriving to the Assumption Campus.

Agape vehicles are provided for food and supply purchasing. Agape Assistant Cook will receive compensation of $21 per hour. In addition, meals during work hours are provided.

Head Chef & Assistant Cook - Tentative Workdays/Hours (note, some of this will be shared work hours, and some will be split work hours)

• Sundays, 12-6pm

• Mondays, 9:30am-8:30pm

• Tuesdays, 9am-5pm

• Wednesdays, 4-9pm

• Thursdays, 7am-2pm

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
