About Us:

Discover After School, founded in 2019, is on a mission to empower children through after-school STEAM exploration. Evolving from after-school clubs to comprehensive before- and after-school programs, we blend fun with science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) to spark creativity and innovation. With over 2,000 students reached in Orange County alone, our vision is to expand our impact by opening preschools and fostering community partnerships. Our mission is to paint a world of possibilities for the next generation through STEAM. Our offerings include before- and after-school programming, seasonal camps, training and resources, and family and community events.


Position Summary:

Become an After School Instructor at Oakland Avenue Charter School and be part of our dynamic team! Your role as an After-School Troop Leader revolves around creating a safe, fun environment with elementary-aged students. Embody our mission and values, and inspire young minds on a journey of discovery and growth. Join us for the ultimate after-school adventure!


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent service to all students, families, co-workers, and school administration.
  • Meet the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the children in their care.
  • Work in a team environment; build and maintain healthy, cooperative relationships.
  • Communicate positively and effectively with the Site Director.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures both organizationally and departmentally to ensure the safety of children, parents, and staff.
  • Model positive behavior and educate children in a manner which contributes to mature and responsible behavior.
  • Complete all Discover After School and governmentally required training in the required time frame.
  • Implement the curriculum and schedule provided on a daily basis and provide feedback to such on a weekly basis.


Qualifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Background Screening & Drug Screening.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (Must be completed within 30 days of employment)


Skills:

  • Eagerness to learn.
  • Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills in English is required.
  • Bilingual, with proficiency in both English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, patient, responsible, and dedicated to enhancing program performance and impact.
  • Strong communication skills for interactions with children and administration.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities for daily challenges.

Job Type: Part-time


Compensation: $15.00 per hour. Bi-Weekly Pay.

Schedule:

  • August 2026 - May 2027
  • Monday - Friday
  • Morning Care - 6:45AM - 9:00AM
  • After Care - 2:30PM - 6:00PM, 1:30PM - 6:00PM (Wednesdays) 

*All positions are part time with the possibility for full time hours*


Discover After School Seasonal Camp Opportunity Disclosure: 

At Discover After School, our main employment period is from August to June, with seasonal camp opportunities available during breaks. Staffing for camps depends on student enrollment, so not all staff may work during seasonal camp breaks. We conduct a survey at the end of each season to determine who is interested in working seasonal camps. Managers choose top counselors based on their work ethics and reliability, emphasizing factors like attendance and punctuality because camp is a full-day commitment and requires dependable staff. Additionally, we survey employees at the end of the school year to confirm who will return for the next school year. Returning employees are guaranteed a position with a good recommendation from their manager. Does this employment structure align with your expectations and career goals?
