SCOPE

Responsible for the sale of company products in government and foreign markets.  Formulates policies governing direct and dealer export sales and service, including pricing, promotion and advertising.  Make periodic visits to important markets to investigate operations of dealers, agents, and market conditions.

KNOWLEDGE  / EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Sales or Marketing or its equivalent preferred
  • A minimum of five year's industry experience in global field sales working with and through dealers. 
  • Fire industry experience may be substituted with experience in a capital equipment industry working with dealers. 
  • Strong analytical, written and oral communication and organizational skills are required.

EXPERIENCE

  • This position requires an intelligent, analytical and highly motivated global marketing and sales professional who is flexible and can interface effectively at the highest corporate level yet have the ability to adapt to a small company environment. 
  • This position also requires a high degree of integrity and a proven record of relating with and managing people to maximize human resources. 
  • Must be a participative, team-oriented person able to interact well with people at all organizational levels and have sensitivity for both government and foreign customers and distributor relations. 
  • This individual should be a strong communicator with good public speaking abilities and be able to sell ideas in both an oral and written manner. Some Spanish speaking is a plus.
  • Because of the nature of the product, must have mechanical aptitude and orientation and be able to communicate on a technical level and relate to many different cultures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Promotes the sales of existing and new product lines through written, verbal and personal sales efforts.
  • Assists product team as necessary in developing cost reductions, product improvements and new products.
  • Supervises government and export sales activities.
  • Directs sales surveys to determine market potential.
  • Formulates and recommends policies governing direct and dealer export sales and service, pricing, and promotion and advertising.
  • Develops export advertising programs in coordination with Marketing Communications and analyzes use of suitable domestic advertising in export markets.
  • Assists in the development of new export products and modifications to existing products.
  • Facilitates visits of government and foreign customers and export dealers to the factory.
  • Assists in development of special unit packaging required for specific markets.
  • Prepares estimates of export sales, also budgets for operating expenses.
  • Recommends improvement in existing products where desirable to meet competitive or other conditions.
  • Attend trade shows as necessary.
  • Assumes special assignments and projects as assigned by the Director of Sales and Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
  • Assists in planning conventions, shows, and customer visits, demonstrations, product advertising and sales forecasting.
  • Provides customers and dealers with technical assistance by reviewing specifications and, when necessary, preparing bids and quotations.
  • Provides dealers with special pricing quotations. In addition, assists dealers with strategic product decision and special product requirements.
  • Prepares and submits monthly reports and quarterly priority reports. Establishes and maintains competitor/supplier information files.
  • Provides product training to dealers and customers and staff.
  • Write information bulletins when necessary.
  • Tracks sales volumes, leads and prospects.
  • Maintains responsibility for dealer sales training and on-going relationship-building tasks.
  • Review incoming orders for completeness and conformance to established company requirements.
  • Participate in order review meetings. Resolve order review questions with dealers. Handle approval drawings with dealers.
  • Participate in production scheduling planning.
  • Review change orders for completeness and conformance to established company requirements.
  • Review all special pricing requests for non-standard items and purchased chassis for feasibility.
  • Provide special pricing to assigned dealers.
  • Coordinate and participate in final inspections and delivery of units with dealers and customers
  • Coordinate communications concerning orders among the dealer, customer, sales, marketing, engineering, production, purchasing, and finance personnel.
  • Provide monthly forecasts for unit shipments. Inspect unit before dealer and customers arrive.

OTHER RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS

Job functions may include special assignments as directed by the department supervisor or manager.

Ability to travel (up to 20%) by car and air across assigned territory, including overnight stays.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS

Must be able to handle a variety of customers, which can include interaction with other departments, managers, customers, vendors, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Will work in an office setting with some exposure to customer locations and at times on the factory floor. Would be required to comply with all safety and environmental rules, regulations and guidelines including PPE requirements. Could be exposed to dust, noise or hazardous materials. May be required to handle material up to 50 pounds in weight.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Reports to the Director of Sales.
