Job Description

AECOM Water is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Manager to support Orange County Sanitation District's Capital and Small Projects Program through AECOM's staff augmentation and engineering support contract. This is a hybrid role, with the selected candidate reporting to OC San's Fountain Valley office 2-3 days per week, with the remaining time worked remotely as appropriate.

The selected candidate will serve in a program-level project management role, supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of multiple water and wastewater capital and small projects. This position requires a strong background in municipal water/wastewater infrastructure, owner-side project delivery, and the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.

The Project Manager will work closely with OC San staff, AECOM technical teams, and external consultants and contractors to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with OC San standards and objectives. This role may support large, complex capital projects while independently managing one or more moderately complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support program-level delivery of municipal water and/or wastewater capital and small projects.
  • Independently manage one or more moderately complex projects from planning through closeout, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk management
  • Coordinate and oversee all phases of assigned projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and within scope
  • Provide owner-side project management support, including project controls, scheduling, cost tracking, estimating, procurement coordination, and change management
  • Direct and coordinate the efforts of AECOM technical staff, subconsultants, and other support resources
  • Interface directly with OC San project managers, engineers, operations staff, and leadership
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; proactively resolve issues to minimize impacts to cost, schedule, and quality
  • Review and provide quality control oversight of design calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables
  • Prepare project-related documentation, including correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, schedules, and status updates
  • Support coordination with contractors during construction, including RFIs, submittals, and issue resolution
  • May provide guidance and oversight to mid- and junior-level engineers or project managers supporting assigned projects
  • Collaborate with AECOM regional teams as needed to support OC San program objectives
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related engineering field and 6 years of experience in water/wastewater engineering and design, including project analysis, feasibility, and budgeting required or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Valid Driver's License and must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in California, or able to obtain same in six months after hiring
  • Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor
  • Proactive on assignments and demonstrate initiative
  • Must work independently with minimal supervision, and complete multiple technical tasks under tight deadlines
  • Proficient with CAD and design software (Civil 3D, Bentley Design Suites, Water CAD, Sewer CAD, ARC GIS, etc
