Overview
National multidisciplinary design firm is seeking a talented and collaborative Structural Seismic Engineer to join their Los Angeles or Washington D.C. Office. In this role, the successful candidate will possess nonlinear analysis/design experience and excellent computer programming skills.
This collaborative studio is committed to meeting their clients' sustainability goals as well as challenging our industry. They aim to develop the expertise and research to push beyond net zero energy to net positive energy and to embodied carbon reductions in our structures through their participation in the SE2050 challenge. As the need and desire for sustainable environments grow, so does the focus on high-performance buildings with sound data that the studio can share back with their clients and design teams.
In this company, engineers are encouraged to work across multiple market sectors to strengthen their technical abilities in designing different building types. Projects include laboratories, healthcare facilities, academic buildings, concert halls, corporate headquarters, museums, and several types of local, state, and federal government facilities.
The firm has 11 offices all around the world focusing on healthcare, arts and culture, community, corporate, education, and government projects. Recently, the firm won the prestigious American Architecture Award for Museums and Cultural Building, along with IIDA Healthcare Design Award.
In this role, you will:
  • Analyze and design various structural systems
  • Model and analyze nonlinear reinforced concrete and steel structural systems
  • Conduct performance-based seismic design
  • Process big data and clearly communicate results
  • Use coding skills and digital tools to develop automated workflows for structural analysis, design, and optimization
  • Develop custom applications for use in analysis / design

Responsibilities
  • MS degree in structural engineering
  • Knowledge of seismic analysis and design concepts
  • Knowledge of nonlinear modeling concepts and nonlinear static/dynamic analysis
  • 1-7 years of professional experience as a practicing engineer in the building profession
  • Knowledge of building codes, design & construction standards such as ASCE 7, ASCE 41, ACI 318, AISC Steel Construction Manual
  • Experience with a variety of structural analysis software packages such as ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, Perform 3D
  • Proficiency with Rhino & Grasshopper, Revit, and their respective APIs and SDKs is a plus
  • Ability to perform queries in a database is a plus
  • Experience with Azure or AWS cloud technologies is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on quality
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • High level of motivation, proactive and willing to take on new challenges
  • Strong collaborator with the ability to work in a team environment to find the best solutions for each individual project
  • Ability to collaborate with others in the office and across the company to address structural engineering needs. Virtual teaming, training, and project collaboration with other structural engineers in our other offices are required.
