Job description

Structure
The Advancement Writer is an exempt (salaried) position employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Senior Director, Editorial Communications.
Focus
The Advancement Writer is a part of the Strategic Communications editorial team, responsible for creating, editing, and producing a variety of philanthropy-related projects supporting major and principal fundraising at the University of Cincinnati and UC Health. This position has a particular focus on supporting major and principal fundraising. The Advancement Writer will expand our capacity for strategic, executive, and donor-centered storytelling. This person brings strong writing craft, journalistic curiosity, project management discipline, and the ability to navigate complexity without getting lost in it. Within the UC Foundation, this role helps translate high-stakes priorities into clear, compelling, and credible communications.
Specific Duties
  • Execute communications projects working collaboratively with partners across the organization, including development team members, UC and UC Health faculty and staff.
  • Create and edit advancement materials such as donor proposals, impact reports, cases for support, fundraising one-pagers, speeches, and remarks for donor events.
  • Conduct interviews of faculty, students, staff, and leadership for videos and photo shoots for visual storytelling.
  • Research and write stories showcasing the impact of philanthropy at UC and UC Health across multiple channels, including assisting with social media content.
  • Ensure that content adheres to best writing practices, branding, and style standards. Depending on editing background, provide copyediting for team members.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, electronic media, communications, journalism or a related field and 3-5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 2-3 years of experience. Equivalent combinations of education and related experience will be considered.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively. Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral presentation and written communication skills with strong proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills. Knowledge and application of AP style guidelines.
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn UCF systems, including Blackbaud Internet Solutions (BBIS) and CRM, along with other software tools.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Photoshop.

What We Offer
The anticipated starting salary range for the Advancement Writer role is $70,000 to $85,000 annually. When determining final offer amount the UC Foundation considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, external market data, as well as, market and business considerations when making compensation decisions.
