The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.

 

Group W provides wargaming, warfare modeling and simulation, software development, data analytics, and operations research/system analysis support to the national security mission. As a leader in the fields of campaign, mission, and wargaming analysis we embrace the cycle of research paradigm, continually seeking to improve the multi-method application of tools, data, methods, and techniques to generate credible and resilient insights to inform decisions on the Department's most challenging issues spanning CONOPs, acquisitions, force structures, tactics, and strategies. Group W is the developer and maintainer of the Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM), the authoritative M&S tool accepted by the Joint Analytic Community for analysis of theater-level, multi-domain, joint warfare. Similarly, we developed and manage the Standard Wargame Integration and Facilitation Tool (SWIFT) for OSW as an adaptable environment to support joint force combatants' wargaming requirements.

We have an upcoming need for a Data Analyst for Munitions Support to provide onsite support at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities

The candidate will support the Joint Staff J-8 Warfare Analysis Division (WAD) Modeling team to update platform and weapon system modeling data for the Synthetic Operations Research Model (STORM) and the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM). Responsibilities include: review, research, characterize, and monitor at least 100 blue and red platforms and systems performance daily; develop, refresh, and integrate improved modeling data into existing models, working in partnership with a dedicated WAD modeling team; acquire, interpret, synthesize, and leverage intelligence resources to inform performance modeling of adversary capabilities. Perform ad-hoc efforts related to J8 WAD's modeling and simulation effort, and develop and update products to inform J8 WAD's net assessments focusing on threat systems and potential adversary reactions.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active Top Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree or additional 4 years of education can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.
  • 8+ years of experience related to one or more of the following:
    • Military or operations research-related field
    • Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE)
    • Joint munitions
    • Intelligence collection and analysis
  • Experience working with DoW stakeholders to collect, maintain, and refine complex datasets.
  • Adept with interfacing with clients.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Able to work fully onsite based on client needs.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Python or R programming languages.
