Position Summary
The Intake Coordinator supports the overall department by managing the patient referral and admission process for the hospital. This role is responsible for collecting and verifying patient information, coordinating admissions, confirming insurance eligibility, and serving as a liaison between referral sources and hospital departments to ensure a smooth admission experience.
Responsibilities
Admissions & Documentation
  • Coordinate referrals and admissions for the hospital
  • Communicate with hospitals, nursing facilities, and community referral sources regarding potential admissions.
  • Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, and required authorizations.
  • Enter and maintain accurate patient information within the hospital system.
  • Scan and organize admission documentation.
  • Prepare and distribute admission information to appropriate departments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Communication
  • Review referrals with the Director of Psychiatry and clinical staff.
  • Notify referral sources of admission decisions.
  • Inform nursing units and other departments of incoming admissions.
  • Answer questions regarding Behavioral Health services and the admission process.
  • Maintain professional communication with patients, families, staff, and referral partners.
Customer Service
  • Deliver courteous, responsive service to patients, visitors, and healthcare partners.
