Associate Dean for Research Administration
Position Overview
The Heersink School of Medicine (HSOM) seeks a collaborative and strategic leader to serve as Associate Dean for Research Administration. This individual reports to the Senior Vice Dean and will play a key role in fostering a culture of research excellence, integrity, and accountability while supporting faculty, trainees, and research teams across the HSOM.
Working closely with HSOM leadership, department chairs, and institutional partners, the Associate Dean will provide guidance on research integrity, compliance, conflict of interest management, responsible conduct of research, regulatory requirements, and emerging areas of institutional risk.
The successful applicant will be able to devote approximately 0.4 to 0.5 FTE position, with an anticipated start date in December 2026.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to School leadership, faculty, and department leaders on research compliance, integrity, and risk-related matters.
  • Help oversee and coordinate the HSOM's approach to research integrity, including the assessment and management of complex or sensitive compliance concerns.
  • Partner with central offices, including Research Integrity, IRB, OSP, Compliance, Legal, and Human Resources, to ensure consistent and effective support for researchers and departments.
  • Provide guidance on conflict of interest, external activities, research security, sponsor requirements, and other areas of regulatory compliance.
  • Lead or support educational initiatives that promote responsible conduct of research and strengthen awareness of evolving compliance expectations.
  • Monitor emerging federal, state, sponsor, and industry requirements and help translate them into practical guidance for faculty and research teams.
  • Contribute to institutional committees, governance efforts, and strategic initiatives related to research compliance, integrity, and risk management.
  • Identify opportunities to proactively address emerging risks and support policy development in areas such as artificial intelligence, research security, global engagement, and other evolving aspects of the research enterprise.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D., or M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent
  • Academic rank of Associate Professor with tenure and above
  • Accomplished faculty member, with experience leading an independent funded extramural research program
  • Demonstrated ability of strong judgment, discretion, and ethical reasoning
  • Significant administrative leadership experience
  • Experience collaborating effectively across departments, institution, and stakeholder groups
Preferred Qualifications
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to explain complex issues clearly
  • A collaborative style working in partnership with Legal, HR, Compliance, research administration, and other leaders
  • Ability to interpret and develop policy and assess institutional risk, while providing practical solutions to faculty and leaders
