Job description

Cognizant is seeking a Mainframe z/OS specialist for a full-time remote opportunity. Qualified candidates must be in located in the US. Cognizant will only consider applicants for this position who are legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
The Mainframe z/OS Support professional is responsible for providing operational, administrative, and production support for IBM z/OS mainframe systems. The role ensures system stability, availability, performance, and compliance while supporting business-critical batch and online workloads in an enterprise environment.
Responsibilities:
Mainframe z/OS Operations & Support
  • Provide L2/L3 support for IBM z/OS systems.
  • Monitor system health, availability, and performance.
  • Handle system alerts, production incidents, abends, and outages.
  • Troubleshoot z/OS system issues and perform root cause analysis (RCA).

System Administration & Maintenance
  • Support and administer z/OS components including:
    • JES2 / JES3
    • TSO / ISPF

Batch & Workload Management
  • Monitor batch job processing and resolve failures.
  • Support workload scheduling tools (e.g., CA-7, Control-M, OPC/TWS).
  • Analyze JCL errors and correct execution issues.
  • Coordinate with application teams for job and system dependencies.
  • Ensure systems comply with security, audit, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in major incident bridges and post-incident reviews.
  • Ensure SLA compliance and proper documentation.
  • Provide call and after-hours production support as required.

Qualifications:
Technical Skills
  • Strong experience with IBM z/OS
  • Hands-on knowledge of:
    • TSO/ISPF, SDSF
    • JCL and batch processing
    • JES2/JES3
    • SMF/RMF analysis

Soft Skills
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good communication and coordination abilities

Experience Level
  • 4 -6 years, depending on role level (L2/L3)
