Qualifications
To perform the job successfully, an individual should have the following education, competencies, and experience:
Knowledge of and at least 2 years' experience of gerontology/working in a long term care setting or equivalent in related field.,
Ability to organize, motivate and implement program with diverse personalities
Communication and computer skills
Ability to communicate with individuals with dementia
Ability to empower interactive skills among participants attending activities
Ability to work on a team and flexibility
Must be willing to work some evenings and week-ends
Must be able to maintain confidentiality
Lifting/pulling/pushing up to 25 pounds
Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time

Responsibilities
• The Activity Assistant assists the Activity Enrichment Director/activity Director with the development and coordination of activities and programs that are varied, reflect interest, values and beliefs of the residents, and that provide personal life-enriching opportunities for residents who participate in the program
The Activity Assistant possesses a positive attitude
Ensures person-centered care, putting the residents and their loved ones at the heart of all decisions focused on wellness and comfort
Ensures a home environment is maintained focused on wellness and comfort and adapted to meet the varied needs of each resident
Assists in planning and implementing enrichment programs that are geared to meet the needs of each individual's physical, and psycho-social abilities
Conduct and facilitate activities for residents throughout the stages of dementia (early, mid and late)
Facilitates and coordinates large variety of activities, such as group projects, discussions, games
Coordinates limited exercise or physical activity sessions as needed
Interacts with residents on an individual basis
Helps oversee small therapeutic groups and activities
Assists in planning ·celebrations for special occasions for residents
Plans and implements intergenerational programs
Assists in developing monthly activity calendar and log attendance at functions
Promotes involvement with family and friends
Attends staff meetings and family meetings as appropriate
Participates in ongoing in-service education

Follows all safety procedures and protocols and reports all hazardous conditions, defective equipment, accidents, or incidents to supervisor immediately
