Job description

Our client is not your average CPA firm.

This is a bold, strategic, and purpose-driven organization that is redefining what the client–accountant relationship can look like.

We are seeking an Accounting & Tax Manager to help lead a client-centric, value-focused accounting experience for the SMBs they serve. Recognized as a Best Place to Work, an Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Company, and one of Accounting Today’s Best Firms to Work For, this firm continues to grow by doing things differently and doing them well.

About the Role

As the Accounting & Tax Manager, you will oversee monthly accounting processes, guide tax engagements, and serve as a trusted advisor to a portfolio of small business clients. This is not a back-office role buried in chaos or defined by constant fire drills. It is a relationship-first, client-facing position where leadership, judgment, strategy, planning and impact matter.

You will work directly with business owners, lead and develop team members, and play a key role in how modern accounting and advisory services are delivered within a growing, high-performing firm.

What You’ll Do
  • You will lead and supervise monthly accounting and tax processes for a portfolio of clients, while serving as the primary point of contact for client communication and strategic planning.
  • You will ensure timely and accurate financials and tax filings, while consistently identifying opportunities to add value beyond compliance.
  • You will coach, mentor, and develop team members, helping build a strong bench of future leaders.
  • You will collaborate internally to improve workflows, leverage technology, and support scalable growth.
  • You will contribute to a culture where teamwork, accountability, and results coexist with flexibility and fun.
You Might Be a Great Fit If
  • You are tired of the fire-drill culture common in many firms, with late nights, surprise emergencies, and never-ending busy seasons.
  • You want meaningful, ongoing relationships with business owners across a variety of industries.
  • You are looking for a firm where your personality and leadership style matter just as much as your technical expertise.
  • You want a seat at the table, not just a title in the org chart.
  • You believe accounting can be engaging, rewarding, and even enjoyable.
  • You are motivated by impact, trust, and ownership rather than micromanagement.
  • You value flexibility, transparency, and working with people who genuinely enjoy what they do.
  • You have the mindset of a leader who is Hungry, Humble and Smart
What You Bring to the Table
  • A CPA or EA credential is preferred, or equivalent experience managing tax and accounting engagements.
  • At least five years of public accounting experience, ideally in a client-facing role.
  • Have a strong grasp of GAAP, tax compliance, and advisory-level client service.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and mentoring staff.
  • You communicate clearly, stay organized, and follow through.
  • Are comfortable working in cloud-based accounting environments, including platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Karbon, Ramp, Gusto, Bill.com and modern workflow systems.
What’s in It for You

Our client offers a competitive base salary in the $115-140K range with a performance-based bonus structure, generous paid time off including volunteer time, and company-paid health, dental, and vision insurance.

You will enjoy flexible hours and a genuine commitment to work-life balance (think a 42-48 hour busy season workweek), ongoing professional development, and a clear career growth path.

Most importantly, you will be part of a team that is invested in your success and your future.

Timing Matters. But So Does Fit.

We know it is busy season, and we respect the loyalty professionals feel toward their current teams. If this opportunity resonates with you at all, we would still welcome the conversation. No pressure. No pitch. Just an honest discussion to explore whether this could be the right next chapter.

Let’s Connect

If you are an experienced accounting professional who wants to lead, grow, and make a real difference in the lives of small business owners, this role is worth a conversation.
