Job description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our client's team in Alabama on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent role. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting specialist who brings strong payroll knowledge along with a solid command of general ledger activity and account analysis. The position will support core financial operations, help maintain accurate records, and contribute to a smooth month-end close process.


Responsibilities:

• Manage general ledger activity by preparing and reviewing entries that support accurate financial reporting.

• Perform month-end close tasks, including balance sheet review and timely completion of assigned accounting deadlines.

• Reconcile bank accounts and other key balance sheet accounts to confirm completeness and resolve discrepancies.

• Prepare, post, and validate journal entries in accordance with accounting policies and supporting documentation.

• Support payroll-related accounting by recording payroll activity and ensuring related accounts are properly reconciled.

• Investigate variances and account inconsistencies, then recommend corrective actions to maintain data accuracy.

• Assist with accounting processes tied to financial systems or workflow updates when needed.

• Partner with internal stakeholders to provide reliable financial information and respond to reporting questions.

• Demonstrated experience in a senior-level accounting role with responsibility for general ledger maintenance.

• Practical knowledge of payroll accounting and the ability to work with related financial transactions.

• Strong background in month-end close, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation.

• Experience completing bank reconciliations and researching differences independently.

• Ability to analyze financial records with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheets used for reporting and reconciliation work.
