Blackrock Strategy, Inc. is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support accounting and financial activities in a defense contractor environment that supports federal programs and mission-focused operations.

You will work directly with employees, leadership, vendors, subcontractors, and cross-functional stakeholders to maintain financial visibility, support operational execution, and help ensure day-to-day business activities continue to move efficiently.

This role is designed for professionals who enjoy organization, accountability, and detail-oriented work, and who support mission-focused environments where accuracy and responsiveness matter.



LOCATION REQUIREMENT

This position requires full-time onsite support in Huntsville, Alabama

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

• Employee time and expense activities are processed accurately and in accordance with company and government requirements
• Payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activities are completed accurately and on schedule
• Financial records remain organized, accurate, and audit-ready
• Financial discrepancies and reporting issues are identified and resolved proactively
• Accounting activities support program timelines and operational objectives efficiently
• Stakeholders remain informed through clear communication and coordination
• Accounting processes remain organized and scalable as company operations continue to grow



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Time & Expense Administration

• Process and reconcile employee travel expenses in accordance with federal travel regulations and company policies
• Review employee timecards for accuracy and ensure labor charging compliance with company and government requirements
• Assist employees with timekeeping and expense reporting questions and issue resolution
• Monitor expense submissions and ensure timely completion and processing

Accounts Payable (AP)

• Review and process vendor invoices for accuracy, completeness, and required approvals
• Ensure timely processing and payment of subcontractor and vendor invoices
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
• Maintain organized vendor files and supporting AP documentation

Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Monitor accounts receivable status and support follow-up activities for outstanding invoices
• Record and reconcile incoming payments and cash activity
• Reconcile customer accounts and assist in resolving billing discrepancies
• Support collections and invoice follow-up activities as needed

Payroll Administration

• Process semi-monthly payroll accurately and within established timelines
• Maintain payroll records and support payroll reporting activities
• Coordinate payroll-related questions and issue resolution with employees and leadership

General Accounting Support

• Support general ledger activities and maintain accounting documentation
• Assist with internal financial reporting and reconciliation activities
• Support audits and accounting reviews as required
• Maintain compliance with company policies and applicable government requirements



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience supporting government contracting environments
• Experience supporting travel expense processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and general accounting activities
• Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting practices
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and business/accounting systems
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
• Ability to work independently within a small business environment
• U.S. Citizenship required



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Knowledge of FAR, DCAA requirements, government cost principles, or government contracting compliance environments preferred
• Experience with Unanet (preferred), Deltek Costpoint, QuickBooks, or similar accounting systems
• Experience supporting financial activities within a government contractor environment
• Familiarity with federal travel regulations and expense processing requirements
