Job Title: Senior Staff Accountant

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Department: Construction

Location: Morrow, GA

Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

The Senior Accountant supports and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions for a commercial General Contractor. This role focuses on Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, job cost accounting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition (ASC 606), account reconciliations, and financial statement support.

The Senior Accountant partners closely with the CFO, Project Managers, and operational teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, reliable job cost data, timely month-end close processes, and audit-ready accounting records. The ideal candidate has hands‑on construction accounting experience and a solid understanding of GAAP and project-based accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities Work-in-Progress (WIP) & Revenue Recognition
  • Prepare and maintain monthly WIP schedules, including over/under billings
  • Assist with percentage-of-completion revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
  • Review job cost reports and collaborate with Project Managers regarding cost-to-complete estimates
  • Analyze gross margin fade/gain and identify project variances
  • Reconcile WIP schedules to the general ledger
  • Monitor retainage balances, change orders, and contract modifications
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Support preparation of internal financial statements, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow reporting
  • Assist with preparation of annual audited financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and GAAP standards
  • Support lender, bonding, and surety reporting requirements as needed
Job Cost & Project Accounting
  • Assist with job setup, cost coding, and budget tracking
  • Monitor subcontractor accruals and committed costs
  • Review subcontractor pay applications and track retainage
  • Support project profitability analysis and forecasting
  • Provide financial analysis to support operational and project management teams
  • Assist with preparation and review of progress billings, including AIA billing formats when applicable
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and assist with collections follow-up
  • Track retainage receivable and payable balances
  • Support cash flow forecasting activities
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Maintain and support accounting and operational systems including Acumatica, Procore, SureTax, and Workforce Go
  • Ensure data integrity across accounting, payroll, project management, and tax systems
  • Recommend improvements to accounting processes, workflows, and internal controls
  • Assist with ERP reporting, system reconciliations, and process optimization initiatives
Team Support
  • Provide support to AP, AR, Payroll, and Project Accounting staff as needed
  • Assist with special projects and financial analysis assigned by the CFO
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry
  • Experience with:
    • Percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
    • Job cost accounting
    • Over/under billings and retainage accounting
    • Month-end close processes
    • Financial statement preparation
    • Working knowledge of GAAP
    • Experience with Procore, SureTax, and Workforce Go strongly preferred
