Role Overview

The Accounting Manager will be based in Northfield, MN, reporting to the Sheldahl Controller. The Accounting Manager is responsible for preparing, reviewing and maintaining financial records in accordance with corporate policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. The role also involves analyzing and interpreting financial data to ensure accurate reporting and support for forecasts and strategic business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end closing, analyze accounting records and reporting.
  • Prepare and review journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Monitor Capex spend and forecasting.
  • Enhance the month end close and forecasting procedures through strong collaboration with other departments in the site.
  • Perform comprehensive monthly analysis on Forecast vs Actual for all P&L and BS Accounts and share the outcome with the controller.
  • Responsible for calculations and analysis related to accounting for Inventory and cost of sales (i.e. direct material standard cost, capitalization direct labor and manufacture overhead, purchase price variance, cycle counting, inventory transfer policy, etc.).
  • Generate insightful reports on variances in financial results and key operational metrics, working in coordination with relevant functional departments on/off site.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and optimize expenses, identify opportunities for cost reduction, and contribute to the formulation of cost-saving strategies.
  • Initiate & participate in process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting or finance experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with cost accounting, month-end close, general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and working capital support.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, regulatory compliance requirements, and internal control practices.
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Strong financial modeling, data analysis, and reporting skills, including advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and support actions that improve business and financial performance.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively across Finance, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Oracle experience preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • MBA or Master’s in Accounting preferred.
